How is the wake on the 2000 Mastercraft x star (205v hull) for wakeboarding?

Im looking for a v drive under 25,000 for wakeboarding (never going to ski ) my main priority is having the best wake for a more advanced wake boarder. What boats out there would be the best fit for me?

205V, Super Sport/210, vlx

Weighted down the Super Sport hull is steeper than the 205V in my opinion.

I have had 2 of these boats and they have a great wake. I will say I would notget one unless it had the 350hp (mcx) engine in it though. It has a great lip, good ramp and its easy to drive and learn on as a first boat to own. You can easily kick up the wake with extra weight, so if the price is right go for it.

I'm partial but its still my favorite older boat. Wake is great

The 2000 XStar / 205V hull is awesome. One of my favorite wakes of all time. I don't believe the 2000 came with a MCX engine...I think the biggest engine offered was the 330hp LTR engine, which is plenty for that boat. Put on the ACME 1235 prop and you can run about 5000 pounds of ballast in it.

That boat will throw a great wake for sure

The 205v hull throws a crazy fun wake. It's just super consistent and rider friendly with great shape. And, when you get into ballast amounts of 3000 pounds and beyond, it has the size to satisfy most riders. It's never gonna be like the slammed 23 and 24 footers, but it's still really nice. Just FYI, i believe that in 2000 the x was available with 2 different motors - the mx predator (310 hp) and the mx max ltr (330 hp). I don't know much about the mx, but the ltr is a terrific motor. With the ltr and an updated prop (I run the acme 1235) you can run around the lake all day at riding speed with 3000 pounds or so and still be at or under 4000 rpm and hole shot is no problem.

I have the 310hp predator, and it is more than enough with the right prop. Running the OJ 14.25x14.5 with 3000lbs of ballast and 5 people at 24.5, I'm around 3600 rpms. Plenty of hole shot and top speed around 40. You don't need the mcx. I believe the torque curves on the MCX and predator are about the same. The only reason to get the MCX is if you want a little more top end.

Jay, I've seen pictures of your old xstar with 5k in it. How fast did you ride? Anything over about 3k in mine and the port side wake starts rolling over pretty bad unless I speed up to 26mph or maybe a little higher.

We rode around 26 mph. The key for us was to have an extra 300 pounds or so on the port side.

SLAMMED - the wake is rediK. Lots of weight up front.
25.5 sweet spot

yes, lots of weight up front...basically 50:50 in that boat.

I am with Jay on this one. Having an extra 250-300 on the port is key especially if you are only riding with 2 people. I still have my old girl, a 2000 X-Star she is running like a Champ. I weight it down just like Jay, we run about 4500lbs of H2O, plus people and gear try and balance it out 50/50. The wake gets pretty legit. With that much weight you have to run the ACME 1235 its a game changer. I run about 27-28mph on a 85ft line.

This boat will still satisfy any rider weighted down. It's one of the most legendary wakes of all time and will never disappoint any core rider. The boat is rock solid performer.

Either engine in this boat is going to handle any amount of weight you throw at it. The key is the Acme 1235. It's will push anything you throw in it. As mentioned the base engine vs either the LTR or the MCX is almost identical up to 28-30 mph. If you plan on skiing as well then the LTR or the MCX is a must. You need that extra umff at the top end it provides for the ski speeds. However any speed under that performance of each engine is almost identical

If you do get the 2000. Pull that stupid actuator on the sun deck and just install gas shocks on each side. It takes up a ton of room and will effect your ballast total considerably and is not needed. It's very simple to remove I have 1150 hrs on mine with the LTR without a hiccup

As an aside how many hours are people getting out of motors before serious surgery is required? I have an 03 with 1000 ahem "lightly" ballasted hrs on it. If anything the motor seems to be getting stronger and more economic as it ages. How long till the heads get popped do you think?

Thanks for all the information everyone. Thought I would give an update, I really liked this boat from the start I’ve heard only good things about it. Found one 900 miles away in Colorado and decided to make a road trip and test it out.. now it’s in my shop here is a picture.
