At the end of last summer I had some work done on my Supreme V210. Since then I have noticed that the steering seems to be really tight now. Also there seems to be a little play in the steering. Any ideas/opinions?Can I adjust this my self?

Probably needs a new steering cable, but first make sure there are no kinks or tight bends near the steering wheel.

Replace the cable Steve. She will steer like the day you bought it!

Recent work combined with new problem.... I would go over what was worked on before buying any new parts. If you don't find anything, try isolating it to either the steering wheel and cable side or the rudder side by disconnecting the steering cable from the rudder and checking movement of the rudder and steering wheel seperately.

I aggre with what Sparky J said...

Don't forget to check the rudder packing and make sure it is lubed up and also make sure the grease seals (if you have any) are good. A lot of people think it is always the steering cable... it is not ALWAYS the steering cable. You can disconnect the steering cable from the rudder to check it. If you can't move it freely with your hand at the rudder attachment it is the cable, if you can moveit freely check the rudder box.

whoa, hold on, don't replace anything until you have bought a grease gun and lubed the rudder assembly, my steering was tight from the day i bought the boat until i did that a few weeks ago, now i can turn the rudder by hand, with hardly any resistance, and at speed it is feather light.

Thanks for all the advice.I'm purchasing a grease gun today.I found that the cable near the rudder assembly was bone dry.Hopefully if I lube the area it will fix the problem.

If your's is the same as mine, there are 2 nuts on the very end of the steering wheel shaft under the dash. The inside one you want just tight enough to take all the play out of the wheel in the in and out, or "toward you and away from you" direction. The nut on the end is to lock that one in place. My guess is, whoever tightned that first nut tightned it right up tight. I made the same mistake myself the first time I rebuilt mine and had very tight steering.
