Why do manufacturers use the crappy waterbed type fittings that barely attach?

I know I've seen posts about adding a different fitting to a bag, but searching for things like "ballast fitting" returns about a ridiculous number of messages. Any advice on adding a fitting with a bit more beef to it?

marine glue. take the other side off if you pull the bag out.

Thanks for the response, but I don't really know what the heck that means. Marine glue what? Take the other side off of what if I pull the bag out of where?

thats where I would use the glue!

"Take the other side off of what if I pull the bag out of where?"

uhh... the boat!
a fitting, for example, has two sides. It connects two "things." (i.e. a hose and a fat sac. ) I suggested you glue one "side" the other you could unscrew.

Thanks for the laugh!

some of the newer sacs have quick disconnect fittings and such. another option would be replacing all your sacs.

Okay, you're talking about simply permanently gluing one of the crappy fittings like this:

to the bag itself.

Since I'm looking at doing a permanent setup, I guess that would work. It obviously wouldn't work if I had to disconnect the hose to put the cap on.

If you are doing a more or less permanent set up, just forget about the fittings. The OD of 5/8" marine bilge hose fits perfectly inside the sac opening. Put the hose in the sac and put a hose clamp around the vinyl sac opening and your done. I also found that 3/4" garden hose fits nicely inside sac openings.
