I'm mounting a titan series 1 on my 94 sport nautique. The problem I have is that there is a metal loop in the underside of the deck. I'm guessing the loop was used to lift the deck out of the mold. Anyway does anyone have a good idea what I should do about it? We plan on renforcing the area with more fiberglassing.

I believe your right about what the loop was used for. I would cut the fiberglass around the loop to get it out, and then make some aluminum plates to reinforce the hull. I used a tube of apoxy glue on each plate to take out any air pockets. I have run the boat with the tower for five year now with out any cracks in the gelcoat.

I'd cut around really close to the metal bars with a Dremel, and then grind it just until it smooths out. Go ahead and drill your holes, and if it looks too thin, then reinforce it. Nautiques have super thick decks, so it prob won't need it.

Thanks for the input guys. I acctually just got one of the bars out. The thing was huge about 7 inches long. It is definately a good thing i took it out though, mounting the tower will be alot easier. I'm going to smooth out the area a little then level it off with some fiberglass. We've got some sitting around so I figure it can't hurt to renforce a little. Hopefully I'll

Cool, sounds good. More glass will never hurt. I just avoid messing with glass at all if possible. Especially in a finished, carpeted area, over my head. Blech.

I'd also tape off a little more area around where you're drilling. It looks like your tape is barely going to cover the footprint of the mount.
