For those of you who couldn't make it out to Miami for the board up contest, here are some photos of what you missed. I wrote a little article about it too that will be posted on my website later, you can read about it at www.Austinhair.net under the blog section. Some of the things that went down were a micro kitten bikini contest, skate board rail jam, and street bike demo.

the bikini contest was definitely memorable,
and yeah the pro men's finals were pretty lame, the money was pooled so none of the riders went all out

Maybe my work is blocking photo bucket? Is that possible?
Tim - The only surf I saw in South Florida was from the wakes from the boat race on Sunday off shore of South beach!

Austin, do you know how Philip made it in? I know he was talking with the judges when I left, because he did not qualify. Judging looked a little lame as well? He must have convinced them? His first pass was sick! I didn't think is even a question, specially with no falls.

it can be flat in miami and wavy here

Why do you think they pooled the prize money? Most likely the prize money for the lower spots wasn't even enough to cover their entry fees, flight, stay. It looks like those guys pooled together so that 6th would be covered just as well as first. Looks to me like the sponsorship let them down. Soven may have just been making a statement along with a few other riders. LaRiche is a younger guy and may have thrown is normal comp run.

I definitely don't think Soven's normal riding would put him in sixth, even in wavy conditions. The only chop was the way the took care of the riders.

In finals, Soven did a Raley, Switch Raley, a HS Jump, Tumble turn and maybe 2 more tricks. Thats why he got 6th. The riders in the finals all decided to split the money and just do "lame" tricks. jimmy also did some "lame" tricks but threw some awesome spins. Thats why he got first. Andrew and JD also did some good stuff.

I dont think the judging was lame... In the finals they all got what they deserved for the tricks they threw.

It was still a fun contest and during semifinals we did get to see the pros 'normal' riding. I also don't think they didnt take care of the riders (unless I missed something)

Who were those riders on the stage. Is that what you guys mean by style?

hmm....sounds like one intense final to me! i kind of wondered what the story was with Soven taking last in the heat....kind of unusual if that happens

The bottom line was that the prize money was inadequate and anyone other than the top 2 in finals would have lost money on the weekend. All the riders are friends and decided to support each other by splitting the pot. Phillip was the top seed going into the final (his discussion with the judges was making sure they got the heats right since they messed them up in the semi-finals).

I was there on the final day....thought the event was great but who ever put it together definitely needed to advertise it better. Ski Rixen is 45 minutes up the road and no one there even knew about the event. Regardless...it was a great time and a great set up.
