this thread is for anyone with square tower speakers. i'm in the process of shopping for tower speakers and have found that in/outdoor speakers offer a great bang (HCLD), but we ahve to admit that round cans look better. right now i'm between speakers from audioformz.com and monster tower kicker square in/outdoor speakers.

haha...i just went through the exact same thing. I had the square outdoor bose speakers. They are loud as hell in the boat but do not project very well to the rider. I put in some kicker k65's in audioformz cans and they sound pretty good. in the second pic...i have since removed the bose and i'm just running the kickers

Round cans look so much cleaner on towers. Squared speakers look out of place, almost like your sitting at home on your patio. I'm not saying they look horrible, i just believe round is better looking.

Nice setup Chris. Never thought of doing that. I run "just" the defcon V's. I wonder how much of a difference the extra horn makes? Chad

Chad- the extra horn helps it scream louder. I heard two V's and I loved it. When I found out that I had enough room to fit two IV's and a V, I was stoked. The only trouble I had was finding a 2 channel amp that could run bridged at 2 ohms with the high pass/low pass turned off for the one V. Tincho- you have no idea how many times I forget about the speakers. I'll stand up and "Bam", its decently painful cuz I'll hit those chrome plates. But hey, warm weather is coming so I can throw on the bimini and not have the problem anymore.

Chris- What amps are you running? just curious. That is a tricky wiring dilemna. I have a PPI 2200 which puts 400 to each side.....

Ohh, and Jim- I am dying to get behind your boat and hear how all that turned out. It all looks really good, and my wife loves the look of the fiberglass boxes over what I have now..... Did you seperate each compartment or are all the speakers sharing the same airspace?

Hi Chad, All I can say is I am totally stoked when I turn them on, they work awesome. Once the weather gets better it will be on the water so you can ride and hear. Jim

Chad- I am using a rockford fosgate T series amp that puts 600 rms watts to the V. Than I have a JL Audio 2/300 going to the IV's but once I heard the V, i want to upgrade to a bigger amp going to the IV's although that JL pumps a whole lot more than just 150 watts to each side. Its more like 200 to each side if not more. But still more is better for the deafcon's, so i'll probably upgrade. How do you like the PPI for yours? That sounds like a good option for my IV's.

Anyone have fusion T series? I am looking at picking up a pair. How do they sound on and behind the boat? What type of power are you pushing?

I bought a pair of sony 6x9's 100watt rms, 400 peak. I'm building the tower enclosures. Will these put out enough volume to hear when boarding? What are your thoughts? I can't afford the NVS...or other systems...too pricey.

Attila- Naw, it must have been another nautique. I am fortunate enough to be able to keep it in a boat house in the back yard. The only downside is all the noise complaints from the neighbors when I went through installing all of it. Especially the late nights up till midnight finishing up, and not being able to wait until the next day to test it. And I wonder why the neighbors don't like me...

Chris the 2200 works fine, it doesn't seem to get hot or anything and I run them pretty much all time when we are out. And it also puts out more than the 200 rated similar to your JL's, both lines are very under rated. I talked a lot with ID/Wakeside when deciding. It makes them scream and the tunability of them is awsome. I do all of my equalization with my amps. Everything else (deck, etc.) runs flat. I was just curious about the power cause I have been wondering if I could put more power up there without damaging them. It sounds like you are definitely putting more up there than me. My only problem is the next amp up in the pcx series would put 800 to each side and that will be just way too much. Maybe I'll see you a bit this summer. I have been riding a lot with a guy who lives up in your neck of the woods and I have been dying to put my boat in the river with all his talk about how good it is. I am supposed to go ride in his boat a couple times as well if he can get it back together..... Chad (Message edited by Forwaken on March 21, 2006)

Chad, something I learned with the skylons is that there is never a time when too much power is given to them. I have been in contact with dave from skylon here in sac who designed all the new rubicon series and he said i could have 800 watts going to the V and 500 to each IV. And if any signs of too much power i can always back down on the gain. So that amp your looking at might be perfect cuz the V on mine with the 600 watt amp is crazy loud compared to the IV's. I love the river, everyone has the talk about the delta (which is really sick and all) but dude, the river out by woodland is pretty comparable with even less boats out there. We'll head out all the way to the butte's and have comp lake stretches. I'm dying to look for more riders to ride with. Keep in touch and maybe we could meet up out there. The best thing is the river is glass even on sat/sun.

Hey Chris I'm up in the Sac area once a week or so. You ever ride during the week? I'd love to get a hit behind another SAN. If you're down in Chad and my area, hit us up.

Yea, I do most of my riding during the week. I ride every tuesday and thursday at camp far west/lake clementine/knights landing. Whatever the weather is doing. And I attend Sac State now so i'll be riding behind the teams Super Air and probably bringing my boat out during those same times wednesday and friday, unfortunately its at folsom, which is tricky when trying to get good water. When the weather comes around thats my schedule.

Chris- Great looking boat. We saw you guys at Folsom a few weeks ago when we were there doing a shoot with the guys from Fusion, but I didn't have a chance to come over and check it out. The single Deafon V and pair of Deafcon IV's must scream though!

These aren't NVS but here's a bump for the Monster Tower double barrel Polk db675's. They sound pretty sweet for the money.

I'm just trying to get ride of those I's now cuz they are perfectly good speakers just chillin in my house. Were you guys filming the boat or were you guys doin some riding too? I see your from bend, you come down to Sac often?

Ah, I thought your tower setup looked a little different then it does now! We were just down there for the day to do a photo shoot of the boat for some upcoming projects. We had a pretty packed schedule so we didn't have a chance to ride at all, which is too bad it looked pretty nice compared to the conditions up here.

Randy, any more insight on the MT Polks? I am shopping for speakers and it was between the MT Polk doubles and the Fusion T series combo speakers. How do you honestly like them and how do they sound at riding distance? I like the MT because of how easily they are removed so they do not find a new home one night. Thanks for the input!

Gavin, I haven't heard the Fusion T Series but I've been told they are loud and clear. I could hear the MT Polks at 70 feet and I think if I had the right setup, ie. pushing more to the tower speakers without blowing people away in the boat, they would sound even better. If you don't separate them, you will get feedback in the boat. I upgraded all of my boat speakers to db675's also. With that being said, I haven't been able to crank them that often because I have to answer to a higher being(wife). Hope that helps.

Randy, when I do this I am going to put the tower speakers on their own amp seperate from the sub and main speaker amps. I am sure that will help. But decisions decisions decisions!
