TOURNAMENT STOP #4
Saturday July 24th at Two Cow Cove
Lake Pleasant
Sponsored by:
Thewakestore.com
&
Calabria Boats

Our next event will be back on the west side. It will be at Lake Pleasant’s Two Cow Cove on Saturday July 24. The Wakestore.com and Wakeboard & Ski Marine will be our host sponsors. When preparing for this event, remember to show up early if you want a practice run! There is a limited amount of time to pull practice. Registration closes at 9:00 AM for all classes except Outlaw. Late riders will not be allowed to register after 9:00 so don’t be late! Part of running a smooth tournament is being able to put together the classes and judges sheets prior to. Late entrees cause confusion and slow down the process. Be punctual or NO WAKE FOR YOU!

We’re looking forward to another excellent tournament and hope to see you there.

Tom Bugg, AWA Founder/President
Walt Chantler, AWA Vice President

The Wake Store.com is bringing the Pro’s to you!

Come out and ride with the Pro’s on Friday July 23. Our host sponsor The Wake Store.com is bringing this great opportunity to you! See the attached flier more details!

Recap of event Stop #3 at San Tan Lake

Event Stop #3 took place last month on June 26th at San Tan Private Lake. This event was, without a doubt, our biggest event to date. The venue was absolutely perfect for a wakeboarding tournament. Our host sponsors for this past event were Century Marine and Liquid Force.

The event started with a practice session at 7:00 AM. Practice gives riders an opportunity to get behind the boats and check out the wake and do some last minute adjustments to their riding. Practice ran for about an hour and a half and was run on a first come, first served basis. Almost 20 riders were able to get in a practice run. Practice ended followed by a riders’ meeting and finally, the main event. Melanie Bosley from Century Marine did an excellent job of coordinating riders throughout the day and helped to keep everything running smooth. The Arizona Wakeboard Association volunteers were very appreciative of the fact that she was willing and capable of jumping in to ensure a quality event. Century Marine also brought out free T-shirts for the competitors – nice touch. The course was consistent for all riders due to the nature and layout of the ski lake. As a result, spectators were able to see some awesome riding throughout the day.

Century Marine brought out a Super Air Nautique 210 (tricked out with SPY Optics graphics) and a Ski Centurion to pull riders throughout the day. The boats were beautiful, performed well and were weighted perfectly thus creating great wakes. If you liked the boats, contact Century Marine and they’ll be more than happy to answer questions and set up a demo if need be.

Co-host sponsor Strat Nello was on hand at the tournament and gave away tons of Liquid Force and REEF merchandise. Strat also gave away a Liquid Force surfboard on the EDGE 103.9 radio station the day before the event. Strat always brings out excellent product when he shows up at an AWA event.

As stated earlier, we had the largest attendance at this event in the AWA’s history. As a result, two of the classes (Intermediate & Advanced) had to be split into separate heats with the top 3 riders in each heat advancing to a final round. In the future, if we are faced with large classes we will take the top 2 riders to the final round. After everything was said and done, the boats pulled over 125 complete passes.

While the riders were out on the course doing their thing, spectators were able to participate in raffles, enjoy free handouts, purchase equipment and apparel and listen to great music provided by the EDGE 103.9 radio station. Heavy Thunder (AKA Chuck Hyde) was on the microphone and did a great job of entertaining us. The AWA would like to thank all of its sponsors who showed up at the event and those that weren’t able to make it. Please make sure that you support the AWA’s sponsors because they support you! There’s a complete list of AWA sponsor’s and links to their web pages on the AWA website: http://www.azwakeboardassoc.com/sponsors.php

Wet Wednesday’s Are Here

If you have been looking for a pull behind the AWA’s Official Tow Boat (Pimped Out 2004 Calabria Pro V) here is your opportunity! If you are sick of bumming a ride behind your buddies I/O or don’t even have that as an option, listen up. The AWA is loading up our boat with around 8 hungry riders each Wednesday for $20 a pop. We are ready to take you out and show you a real wake, behind a tournament boat. If you are interested, please contact Mike Haley at 602-300-4006. Mike will need to schedule accordingly, so please give him as much notice as possible.
