This is my first post, hope its ok to post here lol. I'm looking at purchasing a 97 nautique super sport v drive . Question is, what kind of wake with no ballast and what kind of wake loaded up? Good first ski boat? It is mint and I can buy it for 15-16,000. It has no tower, perfect pass or ballast. All that would be on my dime. Would I be better off buying a 2002-05 malibu for around 25k ish? Thanks in advance

Adding all that stuff will add up quickly. It's a great boat when all the options are added but by the time you get it how you want you will probably be somewhere in the 20k range. If the boat is mint with low hours 20k isn't bad for a mint super sport loaded up.

As for the wake... loaded up it is legendary. Start with no ballast and add as you progress. The wake just keeps growing!

Right on! The response I was hoping for. Boat looks brand new. I know the guy personally so I know he always takes care of his stuff.

Finding an older sub 20k v drive, especially a mint legendary one with low hours is always a great thing. Sure you are going to have to add things a you go but sometimes starting from scratch and doing it exactly how you want is better. You can get the highest rate pumps and all the sacs you want right away. Tower as well perfect pass. Sure you can find a boat with that already installed , but its gonna take a while to come across a mint one. Knowing the owner and the history of a boat an tne a t it was well maintained is worth a couple extra k to me as well. You can figure on having extra travel costs for a deferent boat and then that couple k difference is even less.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. If you know the guy, go drive it and go ride it. See how it is for yourself. It wouldn't hurt if you're looking to buy a boat anyway to invest in a fat sack or two to take out and see how the boat responds to the ballast. If you're gonna be buying them anyway, might as well test the boat out with them.
Either way, for 15k for a SAN, especially mint, I would jump on it.

Here is a comparable deal.

I have no connection with the seller. I just seen it while surfing the web.

The one adam is looking at has half the hours, no tower, but much better looking IMO.
Adam can install things himself so what kind of prices for

1)tower i guessed 1k
2)perfect pass again guessed 1k
3) told him he could sack it out well under 1k

thoughts

For half the hours and the price mentioned, I think he would be doing very well. Those boats are built like tanks and if its as well maintained as advertised, thats a heck of a boat.

I would up the tower to the 2k mark. Don't cheap out on a universal. The FCT that was originally in that boat is made perfectly for that boat. If you are going to do it, do it right the first time. An ugly tower will kill resale and the looks of a classic wake machine.

New dimensions FCT would be the only tower I would stick on that boat.

Ballast can be as cheap to couple hundred fo a few sacs and a pump or two for manual full or about 1000-2500 for a full on auto system. There are endless possibilities with different budgets in mind.

I woul go in this order

Tower
Ballast
Pp

The monster mtk is a good looking universal tower. I've seen one in person and seems really well made. Boat I'm looking at has 300 hours and like Denny said looks perfect.

Here is a few pics of the boat

In my opinion I hate the flight control towers. To me it makes the boat look dated if that makes sense. Here's a pic between a flight control and mtk

Flight control

PP = about $1100

Tower = $2000+. You might find a tower that will look good and be good quality for less, but don't budget on it

Ballast = $2000ish. Under 1k will not get you a good setup.

So figure $5000 at least for your mod budget. Could still be a decent deal. As for an '02-05 Malibu for 25k, I'm guessing you are thinking VLX and you have no prayer of getting an '05 VLX for that unless it is in very bad shape. You may find a deal on an '02-04 for that, and there is no good reason not to consider an '01 as well as that is the first year for the updated dash.

I respect your opinion and right to choose, just know that a monster mtk likely won't add value, and could even detract value from a very nice clean boat whereas an FCT, you will get that money back because people desire SANs with FCTs...

Plus your photo comparison is not apples to apples. You compared nautique with malibu...

Count me in the FCT over anything else. Classic boat, looks better with OME parts. I think that Monster MTK is an eyesore...but to each their own, not my boat. Full disclosure, I have been looking at that FCT on my '03 SAN for 10 years, so I am biased....

Great looking boat.

I personally like the mtk tower. To me it has similar lines to the newer 210. Pretty much all newer boats have went to the inverted tower. I think it looks more modern. Like they say opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one. And that's fine with me. It's what makes the world go around.

That's nice looking ride. Hey man it's your boat you can ultimately decide on the tower. I agree that particular Monster tower is not bad overall and the quality of Monster products is def top notch. I just think anyone looking at a Super Sport or San of that era would much rather have the FCT over the Monster. It's just makes the boat.

The more I look at the fct, the more it grows on me. I think they look better with a Bimini with them for some reason though lol

Just beware, the resale concerns I stated are real. If I were you though, I wouldn't be buying to resell, that looks like a keeper to me!

Another question is does the ski pylon come out from the center if I was to put a tower on it?

Yes, it is bolted to a bulkhead beneath the floor. You can get to the bolts through the ski locker hatch

FCT with tramp bimini FTW! (old pics I had to go dig up & wish I had something without all the junk on there, but you get the idea)

Best of luck picking it up, fantastic boat for sure!

my vote is for the FCT
but like others its prob because thats all we have seen on them forever so it looks classic

you will prob have one custom made anyway, i bet the guy who built your roll cage could make one pretty cool

Do not put anything but a fct2 tower on a SS. Here's my 97 with fct2

i've got the same boat, and went through adding all the things you're aiming at. One thing to consider is if you have the time/patience to do all that. Adding ballast pumps looks easy on paper, but when you get down to it, is a pretty big time consuming job. The small details will add tonnes of time to the project.
Adding perfect pass isn't as hard. You will have peace of mind that it should be problem free as its a brand new unit.
One advantage on the older nautiques is that there is slightly more storage. I don't know when they changed things, but on the newer SANs, underneath the rear cushions there are battery trays. The storage on that boat is minimal, so every little bit counts.

Sure it will be your boat ( I hope for you, it's awesome! Get it!) but don't put anything but a FCTII on it. Take the one in Atlanta; I'd have to add 2K for an FCT and the time and effort to take the current tower (and wrap) off and fill the holes. That boat with FCT for the same price would have sold in a minute, I'm sure.

Aaaanyway, good luck! I envy you if you get it!

FCTII. Is the only way to go.

E.J., Just wondering where you got your bimini from? I have a 2000 SAN that I need a bimini for. Can you point me in the right direction? Also, will tower speakers fit under there? Thanks

I do love this tower and I'd like to see it on a SAN. Problem is it costs $2800. The MTK is like $1200, so I can see why he' want to go that route.
