Its a Vampire Tetra.... sort of common amoung aquarium fish keepers as a odd-ball fish.

http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Oddball,%20Vampire%20Tetra.htm

The picture on that site show the teeth really good.

Someone had to have planted it, as they are not native to the states

cheers,
DC

I just noticed to that your in California, have your grandpa notify the Departmetn of Fish and Game. As they record and deal with non-native introductions.

Here is the number to the local DFG office I think:
Main Office
4949 Viewridge Avenue
San Diego, CA 92123
Information: (858) 467-4201
FAX: (858) 467-4299

If not they can point him to the correct office.

Cheers,
Dc

i made some phone calls and they said the water is so low due to the dam problem that they cant do anything with the fish and game because of "resources". My guess is that all the fish are getting trapped in a small and growing smaller body or water every day...the whole fish with snaggle teeth thingy is nuts...will that fish eat/kill off anything in the water???elsinore here i (and everyone else) come

some hillbilly caught a crazy pacu fish in my lake here in Lubbock like 2 weeks ago. He said in a very hick accent "I think I done did see anudder one in der wit it" so they put a 100$ bounty on the other fish. ANother girl was like "it has teeth like me" WOW the news crew always seem to interview those people that make others think that we still ride horses around here in texas. Upload

wes,

The Pacu is a close relative of the piranha but is harmless.

I wouldn't want to see that tetra when it's four feet long, it could really do some damage to you.

That's the problem when people import "exotics" as pets because they're different or no one else has one. When they find out that they don't have time nor the resources to take care of them, out they go into the closest body of water or drain they can find.

The FL everglades has that problem with the pythons. I'm sure you've seen the one that "exploded" after swallowing a gator - it made the news a few months back.

We wake skate in a farm pond behind my house that someone caught a Snakefish in last summer. Don't have a pic, but it's like a big eel looking fish with a snake head and teeth....AND that can survive on land, which is how they get from water to water. Rare here but still here!

My thinking is...if the peeps in FL can ride with the gators.....I can handle a weird fish!

Did any of you guys see that email that was going around after that tsunami with all those really weird fish that were turning up on shore? You should have seen how scary/ugly those things looked.

EDIT: Just looked it up, the pictures were from a study in New Zealand or something. None of them were found on beaches after the tsunami, nonetheless, scary fish.
