Now that Rusty has landed three 1080s, I think it's time for people to start progressing the sport again by trying 12's.

seeing as only 3 people have landed the 1080, 5 have only been landed in total, i wouldnt say that anyone needs to progressing again as the progress is still on its way at what i would say a very good pace.

now, as for spinning a 1260, i pretyt much have no doubt in my mind that rusty or danny could spin it, but getting that last handle pass would be way to freaking hard id think.

not even all pros have 9's even dialed yet!!

I think 1080s are cool and all but i would way rather see a spin that has more style in it then how fast they can spin. Not to diss on 1080s at all because it is impressive. I heard Danny Kass say the same thing in a interview, as well as many other snowboarders. Granted its a different sport, but the way style plays into the riding, there not so different at all.

i'd have to agree with travis...although impressive i'd rather watch nicholas mueller or terje throw a huge tweaked out method off a shear face than everyone in the x-games throw 10's on every hit or watch benny g tweak and poke every 3 he does rather than see a bunch of guys throw non-grabbed 9's & 10's...just my opinion tho..

i totally agree, the 1080 is impressive but it's not stylish, i would rather see a 3 or 5 or a front flip taken huge!!

i think there needs to be more new inverts in the sport. every one has got caught up in spinning since the 10s have been going down. i think we should see alot more inverts, in my opinion inverts look the coolest.

personally, id rather see a grabbed 10 that a 12

I saw an interview a while back ago, I can't remember which pro said it, but I agreed with him. Tricks now seem to be more about who can cram the most revolutions into the same jump. He prefered a huge tweaked out grab way out in the flats vs a highly technical spinning trick.

the thing thats cool about anything board sport related is something that sets someone apart from everyone else. seeing a double up contest, if absolutely everyone throws a 10, then one person goes out and throws a gigantic grabbed poked backside 180 then that would be the coolest trick. but if everyone went out and did a gigantic grabbed poked backside 180, and one person did a 1080, the 1080 would be the coolest trick. anything that sets someone apart from the rest is cool. like how randall harris goes huge, no one else can do it like him, and now he has a huge fan base.

I've never understood this argument. So a rider can't spin big AND be stylish? He has to choose? Danny and Rusty both have grabbed, poked, big 3's and 5's, but they spend enough time riding that they can work on 7's, 9's, 10's, and 12's as well. And I'd much rather see a 12 than the most stylish 3 or 5 ever; I've already seen sick stalefish TS 3's to blind, even behind my boat. I like seeing people push the sport and land new tricks. When I'm in the mood for spins with style points, I'll watch a Keith Lyman section or Danny Harf from a few years ago (before videos became all about laying down 5 720's and 4 900's). I doubt we'll ever see a "stylish" spin of 900 and further, so live with it.

Jeff, amen, brother preach it. Sometimes it depends on the day, alot of the time i like stylie riding, but that doesnt mean going huge isnt a feat in itself.

wasn't there a big "round-table" discussion in a wakeboarder or alliance a few issues ago about this??? i remember reading it one of them but can't remember which one..

I took a riding lesson with Shane Bonifay a while back and asked him about why you dont see raleys and 'classic' tricks in contests and videos anymore. ( I personaly love the raley! ) And his responce was that, "they're too easy now, everyone can do them, spins are 'way more harder.'" I think thas a shame...

Its def true that its alot harder to be consistent on a spin then a glide.

The TS BS 720 seems to be pretty elusive as well. I think pushing the envelope is good as far as seeing what the sport can produce, but style has alot to do w/ it too.

I love seeing tricks like the 1080, i wouldn't say i'd rather see a more style focused trick, i like to see both, it is a balance.

what about a wake 2 wake 10

A couple years ago i saw steve edwards attempt a wake to wake 1080 and was getting close. His w2w 9's look effortless and super smooth. here is a vid it is the last trick in the vid i think. Wont be surprised to see that landed soon. 56

What video software/program do you have (quicktime, windows media player, etc). It won't load for me.

If anyone is going to land a w2w 10, it's going to be Tino Santori. NO ONE spins faster than he can. In the bonus friends section in Updog, he lands a TS 7, HS 7, HS BS 5, HS BS 7, TS 9, Crow 5, and a HS ole 7 wake to wake without even the slightest bobble, and it looks like it was all taken from one set. The cleanest versions of each of those tricks I've ever seen.

kyle alberts spins pretty damn quick, his part in updog is really good!

i predict tino will be the first LF rider to pull a 1080, hes a sick rider and a really cool guy!
Old     (jcv)      Join Date: Oct 2005       08-02-2007, 5:48 PM Reply
True. In the crash section, Alberts comes REAL close to landing a 10 and a HS 9, and with his w2w TS 9's, I certainly wouldn't count him out to be the first to land a w2w 10. Plus, his legit HS BS OA 7 is one of the sickest things I've seen.

Did anyone see sovens 1080 attempts at Parks Double Or Nothing Contest. They were close. He landed wrapped on one of them and slid out. I think Phillip Sovens up there with Tino Santori as the next to pull a 10.

All of the people who are saying they would rather see a stylish 3 or 180, shame on you. Because I know you were the first persons to click on the video when Harf landed the first 10. Part of the sport is progressing it. Riders should be able to do tech and style. Look at Randy Harris.

I don't understand the fuss...I've been landing 1080's, 1260's and 1440's consistently for a while now...granted it's on wakeboarding unleashed, but i think its still legit...
Old     (hawk7)      Join Date: Apr 2007       08-10-2007, 2:37 PM Reply
soven spins like a top, i think he'll be the next ten. he has a 9 right, cus now that i wrote that im second guessing it...

oh and speaking of progressing the sport, spins arent the only place for improvement, weres the crow seven? or whirly 9?? or KGB 5 [hasn't been done, right?]???

Actually Sean O'brien has nailed the kgb 5. And yes, Soven has 9's locked.

Yea KGB 5's have been done for a while. In 'All of Nothing', there is a clip of Shaun Murray trying a KGB 7. Phillip Soven was trying HS BS 9s at Wakestock this year. Has that been done yet? I know it hasnt been done in competition but.. freeriding maybe?
Old     (malibuboarder75)      Join Date: Jan 2004       08-16-2007, 3:05 PM Reply
Greg, wrapped KGB 5's have been done for a while. Sean Obrien was the first land it with a handle pass.

Greg... Pretty sure the BS9 is still one of the elusive spins out there. I know there are a few riders getting close though. That's a pretty insane trick. Right up there with a 10.

Phillip was saying at Wakestock that he's trying to land a HS BS 9 instead of a 1080 right now. I'm pretty sure that he would be the first rider to claim that trick.

his neighbor has never done a 1080...he started a topic that his neighbor got a free board from his sponsor which means that's news to I'm gonna go on a limb and say his neighbor claimed it maybe, but is full of it
