With all the "go big" threads up right now I'd like to point out that Randall and Lyman ride at around 37mph about 115ft back. ;)

randall rides at 93 feet and around 27 or 28 mph. brad smeele rode the other day with us and he was 80 and 25 mph.

I'm always curious as to why people want to know this answer. Is it simply information?

Or do they think by imitating a pro's speed and line length they'll go bigger?

All I can say, is if it's the latter. Work on your fundamentals, on your overall riding, and ride within your personal limits.

First and foremost, it depends on how much weight you're running and what kind of boat it is. The wake is going to be pretty flat running 27mph and 85-90 feet behind a weightless runabout.

Example: I took a set the Wed. of last week behind a LOADED X-star PWT ed. I rode at 26mph @ 85 feet. That was the perfect combination to me at those specs.

Yesterday I rode behind an X-15 with only a few people as weight and rode about 23.5 on an 80 ft. line and I wish I would have moved it in 1 to 75 ft. b/c the wake looked to have much more of a lip a little in front of where I was hitting it.

jeffery,
i was just wondering cause i only ride like 70 feet cause i dont feel as comftorble if i move it back and go faster. sometimes im only at 65 feet, but there are people at my level of riding that ride like 80 feet and 23-24 mph. i was just wondering why they ride so far back and faster speeds. i tried riding 80 or 85 and about 23.5 where the wake was decent, and i just didnt like it cause the wake was so wide but it still felt like i was going just way too fast. i usually ride about 21.5-22.5 mph

benj - I have a friend that just moved to 70' behind his malibu vride/vlx. The guy has several inverts, a great raley, and goes surprisingly big. I also know a kid that rides at 78' behind the same boat with a couple of inverts. The kid goes big but most would consider the him a H/S hero.

I wouldn't get too worried if you are riding a little shorter, a lot of tricks can be done at 65-75 ft.

yea cause like i take lots of tricks in the flats and as big as i can when my knees or back arent hurting and i know randall and lyman ride really fast and really long rope so i was just wondering why they choose to do that.

I am guessing they are just comfortable riding at that length and must feel they can go bigger and have more hangtime.

I'm pretty sure at competitions pros usually ride 24 to 25 mph at 80 or 85 ft. I ride behind a dd ski boat and ride 65 ft at 22.5 because thats the sweetspot with that wake. On my friends loaded 23lsv I ride 23.5 at 75 feet and It feels the exact same width and everything.

22-23 @ 75 behind my x2 (x1,205v)
I tried a little quicker at 80ft out. Don't know how quick, we were running perfect pass in rpm mode. The wake was much lippier and I was able to take all my tricks much higher and took one 3 huge. Only thing was that I would case the wake on every ts jump. Try it

it totally depends on the boat...
behind my VLX 22.5 at 80.. stock wake. nice fuel saving transitions.

x-1 loaded 23 at 80 sometimes 85 depending on weight just because the wake is narrow.

so it all depends on your riding style to because some people like to ride slow but cut so hard and im not into that.

old 210 i run 85.. i like wall style wakes.

all depends. i'm no pro but my supra 22ssv 26@85mph is perfect. i have my stock ballast(1450) plus a 6 in the nose and a 6 in the back.

^^^Was thinkin the same, if I had a longer rope 85 feet would be ideal behind the new 22. I typically ride 75-80 feet anywhere from 23-26 depending on the boat.
