I am going to do some wetsanding and finish up with 2500 grit paper. Can I move on to a fine cut polish w/ a wool pad or do I need to hit it with some heavy duty rubbing compound?

I would prefer to go from 2500 grit to a fine cut compound/polish.

The only way I have ever returned to brilliant shine finish is 3m Finisse It Compound. It is the only thing that will remove swirl marks from heavy duty rubbing compound.

The fine cut compound is pretty much a 2500 grit.

you dont have to go as fine as a 2500 compound if you are going to use a wool pad on a good high speed buffer.

Start with a 800 than go to a 1200. Make sure you keep lots of water on the spots being worked. Wash the boat that hit it with a wool pad & a cleaner cut compound. I personaly use mcguiers Diamond cut compound, its a heavy duty cut cleaner. Than I go to a meidum cleaner cut compound, than switch to a foam pad, hit it with swirl free polish, than use a wax cleaner with the foam pad. Finaly go over it with a hand wax and a good paste wax with carnuba.

If you have done all of this you will be exausted but your boat will look awsome.
All of mcguiers polishes have a compound scale on the bottle so its a no brainer what to use first and last.
