I was driving to work this morning and passed the local Nautique dealer and noticed a new tower. I though it was ugly as can be. Anyone actually rode behind it yet or have any thoughts?

I'm not a fan either....but as with many really pricey items, there is a market for the 'unique' look...and you are bound to get some 'love it' and 'hate it' responses. The tower is what I've always felt was the downside to a nautique...and they patented them, you'd think theirs would be the best?!

I believe you can choose a from a few different Flight Control Towers...its just the new one for this year. That makes my Monster Tower look gorgeous.

So no one likes the overhead board storage and easy fold down? Looks like a good design to me.

With the bimini/rack it looks better.... Alone, it is a bit of an eyesore IMO. Though I am sure function, it may be the best of the three? Who knows....

Regardless, you have 2 other options(2 total)....FCT 1 being my choice....

Yes...and yes....

Though my only experience with them is the video I just watched....

It's functionality looks great, but you couldn't pay me to put that monstrosity on my boat. Who at CC actually thought that design looked appealing? Yikes!

it swoops like an "S" for "SUPER" and "STAR"... maybe that has nothing to do with it?...
I don't think it is too, bad, but i think it is bordering if not entering the abstract world where you see those sculptures that look like nothing at all.

i do like the overhead rack and fold down too

now where is the cash to buy one or even the lucky ticket to get one free ;)

I guess I'm one of the few that likes it. The black/white 210 with the black tower on their site looks great IMO

I can dig the overhead board storage and the bimini, but the tower itself is just plain ugly.

Driving by, it looked more like those roll bars that you used to be able to buy.

I like the looks of the tower, not so much the storage rack up top. Looks pretty good on Byerley's Icon Edition 210, cover of the WBM boat buyer's guide.

just tell nautique to stop messing around with ugly towers and boats and just bring back one of the best boats." THE 210." i believe the 06 was the last of the legacy.

In the past, I have been very critical of CC.

Honestly, I like the new tower. I also like almost everything about the boat. I only have a few small complaints... 1) the interior is overly complex and 2) the scalloped transom is awkward and not very useful.
Old     (bfnaci)      Join Date: Dec 2008       01-04-2009, 10:09 PM Reply
Yea that's pretty ugly, hard to believe they couldn't come up with something more attractive than that.

Sure has a nice wake though, that's all that counts in my book.

I saw it last night at the Portland show, not a fan of the tower, but thought the snap-in carpet was cool.

I think CC was going function over form. Super easy to fold down, directable speakers, looks ike the rope wouldn't get caught in the racks doing a pick-up. Personally, I'd still take the FCT-1, but I think this is CC's answer to keep up with Malibu/Centurion/Tige who all have the Illusion type towers w/o legs in ront of the windshield.

you have to see the tower and feel how sturdy it is and then you well like it it is preaty sick in person. and

I agree on the tower, it took some getting used to for the eyes, but I like it. Our shop is using a different bimini that will be made by tower biminis, it looks pretty slick cause it runs over the tower. I have had the chance to ride behind a 230 with the new tower and it works great. the tow point is easy to reach especially with the over the top biminis. The racks are very functional although I have not seen a pair that doesn't have a bit of play when "locked in". Roswell is the making the new tower and racks for CC. I am and always will be a fan of the way that the old tower looks but I am also one to choose function over form. Until you drive any boat with an "illusion style tower you don't realise how much the increased visability helps. I can fold it up and down by myself with a pair of 485s and a bimini on the tower, to some that will mean a lot. Some like it some don't but that's why you can option on another tower although most dealers are going to stock boats with the new tower, because it's new, different, and functional.

I,ve ridden behind and driven the new 210 with the FCT-3, and if I was getting a Nautique I wouldn't get any other tower. The vision from the cockpit is so much better. No obstructed views at all. They just clamp the mirror to the windshield. A 70 year-old lady could put that tower down by herself. Very user friendly.

Hate the new tower. Function may be great but I do not like the looks. My new 210 will have the Titan.

Are you joking me??? I LOVE the new design. It looks innovative. I've always been a huge fan of the Nautique wake. Personally, I never cared about what the boat looked like as long as it threw a wake that I was stoked on. Now I think that its one of the best sleek looking boats out there.

But seriously guys, if you're stoked on a wake is it really THAT big of a deal on the "looks" of the boat? I mean yeah... don't get me wrong, sometimes it makes people look good to others when they have a "sick looking" boat, but if it has a cruddy wake than really... how "sick" are you then?

It may not be the best looking tower but,it's the most solid tower you will find.It has no flex.If you shake it with the boat on the trailer it shakes the whole boat.As far as function it's one of if not the best one out there.

Another thing to mention. I believe I heard that you can only get black now. When they first came out, you could get the Silver. Not sure what the material was. You can still find some of the first boat pics with the non-black FCT3. There was mention of finish issues. I have not seen the welds up close, but now I'm curious.

I just opened our 216v and the welds look great. I have seen towers in the past with less than steller looking welds, but I am yet to hear of these welds being a real issue aside from there looks.

Aaron, the first time I saw this tower I was not a fan to say the least and was not going to order one for stock. But function won out and the tower works well. Needless to say, it's also grown on me in the looks department...

The tower itself (design) is not so bad. I would expect a better finish on the welds and plates for the kinda coin you will spend on that boat.

CC new FCT3 tower isnt even made by CC it was pawned off to roswell, jus like their FCT2 was sent to titan. . . for a company to complain so much about towers now they dont even make their towers. . . all they r trying to do is keep up with malibu spanking them in sales and wake perfection...
Old     (eas)      Join Date: Nov 2001       01-10-2009, 9:39 AM Reply
I didn't read the whole thread, but isn't this the same type of reception Malibu got when they introduced the current tower? Of course, not everyone will like it, but similarly to the wakesetter, this new tower will grow on people.

Also, I cannot imagine the tower not being powdered...??? And I'm pretty sure powder can be just as glossy as most coatings/paints so I wouldn't let the sheen confuse you.

Yikes, that interior looks hard to keep clean. I don't think I would ever own a boat with white carpet.

I saw a few of these Roswell towers in person today when I was ordering my new 210. Looked much better than in all the pictures I have seen, especially with the cargo bimini. I ordered my 2009 with the Titan by the way.

I'm not a fan of the look but the build quality was great on all the boats that had the FCT-3 at my local dealership. Looked nothing like the pics above. It is painted black and cleared over top. It is not powder coated. It is definitely the most sturdy tower I have seen and it folds with very little effort. I still prefer the Titan but it is nice that CC gives you three towers to pick from on the Air boats.

as a first run on these towers guys you cant argue that they dont work well and I think thats what they were going for here. Is it amazing looking? well.... to each his own I guess. but it works really well! hopefully Correct Craft is watching these forums and then they head back to Roswell and say "make it pretty now, so the Malibu guys will quit picking on us." IMO

The paint issue it most likely because all their towers from china aren't cutting it so they have been having to re-do them once they get here... at least that is what I have heard.
Old     (adam_balon)      Join Date: Jul 2003       01-11-2009, 3:23 PM Reply
i dont mind it. i was unsure at first..... but with that rack loaded up with boards, the visibility and the ease of use i am sold.

i like that brands are trying new things. as for roswell.... you have to give it to them for bringing new concepts to the table. a leader rather than a follower.

if i was to buy a 2009 210 it would be with the new tower..... nautique needs to change the backseat configuration for one to be sitting on my boat lift.

bring back the old 210 with a basic titan tower for under 30g's!!!!! the nautique 210og.

Just to throw it out there, as someone who has experience with Roswell and most of the other major tower brands - I believe Roswell to make the nicest quality stuff on the market. Really nice quality and very well engineered.

That paint finish definitely looks sketchy, but saying that I'd think there's a reason for it... maybe it was done by the dealer because they wanted black not silver or something? I think we need confirmation on that before we bash them too badly!

I'm not a massive fan of this new design, but it is growing on me. I remember hating the newer style MC towers at first but not I think they look great! Same with the 'bu towers.

Either way, its a shame that tower was allowed to be seen at a show with as poor a finish as that as its clearly not done either company any favours...

I drove the boat(230 SAN) that Hahn posted for three days for a Jr. Men's photo shoot. I currently have an 07' and 08'210 that I like a lot, better than than the 02' and 05' that I previously owned. However, that 230 SAN and tower IMO was was killer and would seriously consider buying one like it if I could sell one of may other boats.

A buddy of mine at the factory said those towers are made in China and when they get here CC has to take them directly to Ramlin to fix all the welds and blemishes. CC thought they were gonna save some money but it ended up costing them more in the long run.

Ya, the picture above looks like a reworked tower -- that sucks -- often the longest path between two points is a short cut.

Its sad that companies try so hard to cut costs by exporting jobs. Like was said before it leads to a whole new set of problems.

Its obvious that the finish is bad on that tower. I don't know anything about welding can anyone post about the difference between good welds and bad? I want to order my 210 but I don't want a poorly finished tower, especially for that price.
Old     (brit_rider)      Join Date: May 2004       01-13-2009, 1:56 PM Reply
Dave - Its not the weld sin question on the tower, its the finishing.

Anyone who has ever seen a tower made by Roswell, in China or in the USA will have seen their welds are absolutely spotless. They are perfect to a ridiculous level...

Looks like they are getting scratched in shipping or at installation would be my guess.
