With the season pretty much done here in northern Illinois, my thoughts are turning to the next season.

My friends and I are thinking about a road trip south in early March, to get in some good riding.

Anbody have any ideas for a good place to go that is within a days drive from northern Illinois?

Hyco lake NC. Its heated. Map quest yourself to Semora, NC. We have a nice campground there and a big gathering every Spring to start the season.

Is North Carolina a days drive from Chicago? I was there once as a kid, but haven't been back since.

You said the lake is heated. What is the water temp, and what is the air temp around that time of year?

There are actually heated lakes all over the place. Hyco just happens to have a great campground on its shores. Illinois has a few heated lakes--not sure how warm they stay. Check out Clinton Lake between Bloomington and Decatur--supposed to have nice camp grounds. There is also another heated lake in southern Illinois--heated by a power plant, just don't know the name.

We are looking for a good combo of air and water temp. I have heard of the one down in Clinton, but air temp will probably still be to low. As for trunking it in April, well that's just crazy.

lake sinclair georgia , 2 hours east of atlanta. 1 buk to park at ramp a day , can stay at local college town 5 miles down road. no one is at the lake that time of year except fishing , lake temp mid 70dish because of hydro plant on lake, i wear short or long suit depending on how hot the sun is pumping , its more for the wind chill then water chill.

zip is 31087

Always well worth the trip. OWC will hook you up at the finest hotel for cheaper rates. "Finest" as in open bar 5-7pm.

I've been in at OWC in trunks in late february. You will standout as most locals are the ones in full wetsuits!!! Last year was cooler, and I bought a chillskin, which was awesome. I recommend checking with them about the Quality in. It was cheap and they had a happy hour from 5-7 as x-girl pointed out.
