Richard dropped his boat of on Saturday and hes going old school...2 15s. This boat is gonna be heard for sure, were doin a 15 at the drivers feet and a 15 in the passenger compartment. We are going to have to cut the footrest out tp make room for the big sub box. To finish these boxes off they are going to be painted on the inside with red LEDs. here is the breakdown:

(2) Solobaric 15s
(1) Pair of NVS Tyrants
(1) Rockford Fosgate Power T30001
(1) Rockford Fosgate Power T4004
(1) Rockford Fosgate Power T8002
(4) Rockford Fosgate Power 6.5s
(2) Golf cart batteries
(1) Upgraded alternator
AND LOTS OF LEDs!!!!! (just for Grant)

Here are some before pictures of Richards nice new clean boat.

We are going to put the Golf carts in the rear compartments. We are also going to add a second starting battery to the second stock location. These two batteries will power the system with the alternator while riding, and the golf carts will provide the power while chillin in the sun.

The boat came to the shop with no stereo, so its like a clean sheet of paper. Were going to do a Clarion CMD4 in the stock location and one LCD display remote at the transom of the boat.Upload

Keep em' coming !! How do you guys find the time for these insane installs and still lurk on WW ?

In your opinion how does the build quality of the Sanger compare to the top 3 boat manufactures? I presume you guys crawl and peep in every nook & cranny, more so than the normal boat owner.

Clay, make Grant put in the passenger side 15. We know how much he likes that fiberglass across his lower back

Darren: Yes we crawl in every nook & cranny and pull these things all apart and put them back together. I bet we see parts of a boat that a boat owner never see's. Build quality your kidding correct, LOL not gonna touch that subject with a 10 foot pole.
Ill just say this each and every boat has positive and negiateve things about it. I haven't cralwed in one boat yet that I said OMG this is boat is perfict. You can find things wrong in a 150 thousand dollar boat just as a 30 thousand dollar boat. Each boat that comes threw the shop is given lots of love. So its like asking a mother witch is your best kid. You might like some more than other's but anyone that puts time energy and money into making their boat that much more special I have love for.

I will say this Richards 215 is the cleanest boat we have touched. Tim's SAN is a close 2nd. It Looks better than off the show room floor. Its a pleasure to work on a boat this clean. It give's you a Idea how they are going to take care of the boat after your done with it. Teddy's SAN was discusting when we got it and when we were finished with it I think it sat outside. IMO that thing needs to be in a a fully coved garage. But to each his own. One last thing. I have found that owners that say how clean they keep their boat and how anal they are about it are NOT. Richard never said how clean his boat was or how he would like us to take care of it he didn't need to when his boat showed up and we saw what it looked like, We knew exactley how to take care of it. We take care of all boat's but IMO you gotta give it up for people that keep their stuff sano. I know how hard it is.

Yo Tim havent talked to you in a while, It takes 7 screws to get that whole bottom piece out...Im thinking about it. The only problem with takin it out is that its so damn big, I dont know where to put it. Ill just leave it in there and make Grant do the reversed arched back manuever.
Old     (grant_west)      Join Date: Jun 2005       02-28-2006, 6:16 PM Reply
The arched back move is so brutal over time you got to be Yoga instructor to "get your install on"

its ok Grant I pulled the 7 screws out, and Im gonna pull out the base tomorrow when you stop by. Check out these pictures, I think Richard needs to do like 4 15s! There is so much room in this thing. Each sub box is going to be specd at alittle over 2.0 cubic feet a piece!

Im looking forward to cutting into Richards pristine gell coat. LOL It makes me feel like a plastic surgeon throwing a set of Bolt On's on a young hottie.

dang! i hope you guys know what your doing! how bout just using some 3m doubled sided moulding tape for the remote instead of drilling into my "pristine gelcoat"... then you could run the wire over the rear compartment door and tape it to the rear grab handle..

rich I am going to watch closely as it might give me some ideas for alterations to my system. The most important thing to me is how functional it will be with the family onboard.
Old    mendo247            03-01-2006, 3:49 PM Reply
kenny, i spend 90% of my time on the water boarding so functionality was a huge issue as we thought this up.. i think its gonna come together quite nice..i trust these guys to do what they want once i let them know how the boat was used..
Old     (mikeski)      Join Date: Aug 2003       03-01-2006, 4:26 PM Reply
Clay,

a little heads up on the golf cart batteries... They have a higher internal resistance then the blue tops you guys normally use. If you find your bass amp getting snarky with hard hits you may need to add a cap to smooth out the voltage dips.
Old     (sound_illusions)      Join Date: May 2005       03-01-2006, 9:47 PM Reply
Thanks Mike, Ill just order one up tomorrow just to be sure, I dont like trouble shooting once everything is done.

Clay

If you can get the room, vent those subs. They will make twice the bass. :-)
Old     (mikeski)      Join Date: Aug 2003       03-01-2006, 10:07 PM Reply
It's interesting to see different opinions about sealed vs. vented sub boxes. I have built several vented cabinets but I tend to prefer the sound of a sealed box. The snappy tight bass just sounds better to my ears with my varied music tastes.
Old     (chas)      Join Date: Feb 2002       03-01-2006, 10:14 PM Reply
Ya but how snappy is a 15 going to get? Could also do one sealed one vented.

Never mind, both have to be in same style encloser due to running single bass amp.

Why do you say he's going old school...is it because he's using 15's ?

Hey everyone, I have been waiting for the amplifiers to come in, it is taking awhile to get them I know. I have been sick for a few days, I got the remote and headunit in last Friday. When I get to the shop I will post a couple of pictures from that.

Hey here are the deck and remote pictures. If anyone is planning on upgrading to a new style Clarion remote, it is not the same size hole. The older Clarion remotes use a 2 inch hole. The new LCD remote uses a 3 inch hole.

I didn't even pay attention to the first post, two solobaric 15s off of a T30001 running at 1ohm!!! That thing is gonna pound. Rockford amps are huge, I'm interested to see the amp rack on this.
Old     (sound_illusions)      Join Date: May 2005       03-17-2006, 3:02 PM Reply
The test sheet on the 30001 is rated at 3190 watts at 2 ohms. I am not going to run it at 1 ohm, because Im not a big fan of dropping ohm loads to 1 ohm. Here are some pictures of the 30001 that Grant is holding, the second picture is of it standing next to him. The other pictures are of the basic layout of where the amps will be mounted.

Jon- These amps are not mounted yet, this was just a mock up of where they were going to be placed.

Attila- Patience. The LEDs will come! Here is some LED pictures to hold you over until they go in the boat.

That's exactly what Grant & Clay need to get their hands on....a 247. You could put the whole golf cart in there, Bond style, and still have room for some free LEDs.

from what I hear there is a sexy 06' VLX that is going to be insane here over the next few months in the Illusions shop.

Not quite as big as a 247, but still alot more room than those pinner SANs that are always in the shop.

Clayton,
Don't loose the receipt on the Fishman grilles. We've done a few of those before and although look great, the spokes stick out beyond the perimeter of the speaker and make great rope hooks if mounting on the rear tower tube.
Charles at Neptunes may even have some pics of before and after.
