I have a buddy who is buying a 96 SS Nautique for his first wake boat. Do any of you on here have any experience with this boat? If so he (we) would like any input on to proper weighting and speeds that put out a favorable wake. BTW...this boat has no tower so we have to add that as well. I do not know what he is looking at , but some after-market suggestions would be appreciated here as well!

I have a 95, it is the same hull as the pre 2007 Super Air. Weighting and speed will depend on personal preferences and ability level. The boat will have a good wake with as little as 6-800 #s and a GREAT wake with 1500-2500 #s. Speed will be somewhere between 21 an 24 mph, depending on amount of ballast and line length

I would recommend looking into the New Dimensions tower, same mfg that made the Flight Control Tower for the Super Airs. Only way to go other than a factory FCT, IMO.

Good luck and have fun. That boat puts out one of the best wakes out there

Congratulations to your buddy. I have a friend with a perfectly weighted SS Nautique. Hopefully he'll chime in, because his wake is DIALED!

Stan?

My 95 ss has the open bow fly sac under the sun pad in the front a 680 lunch pad sac in the ski locker. Finally I have the skylon buddy sac in the back 280 a piece. Its about 1400-1600 pounds 22-24 mph and you will love it. P.S. I put three 25 pound plates oppisite the driver to help the toe side.

Thank you all...my buddy is pumped. He is going to NC to pick it up on Tues. I was shocked that it only has 246 hours on it. Good times ahead!

Ballast setup as Scott said will depend on your level of riding and your personal preferences.
My setup.

Moved battery and took out electric lift of rear hatch cause they were in the way of ballast.

Fly High Pro-x 750lb sacs next to engine. Probably fill to about 650 each.

Ski locker Fly high pro-x rear seat bottom 650lbs.

200 lead in the nose all the way up.

80lbs next to driver in pop bags to offset rotation of prop.
So around 2100-2200 of ballast.

With this much weight you have to ride fast to keep the wake clean. Minimum speed will be about 22-23 before it starts to wash. I ride at 25 and 80-85 feet back depending on the day.

Here is a link to another discussion where there are some pics from my setup and others.

Have fun it is a great boat.

Thanks for posting, Stan. I can say from experience that your wake is awesome (personally, it scares the $@#@ out of me, but I'm a bit of a wimp :-)).

Stan,
What prop are you running and what RPM are you turning with that amount of weight in the boat?

acme 536 at about 25mph and 3150-3200 rpm with 3 people. If you add some more people maybe 3400 rpm. Gets out of the hole fine and holds speed great.
