From what I understand, they are illegal now. Has to be a competent (sp?) 14yr old, physically holding th flag. If this is wrong, I know Boss Accessories made a killer one a couple years ago.. Not sure if it's still around.

If they're illegal you can still buy flags with the suction cups on them that you can attach to the window...I see them at boat supply stores...

the weirdest thing ive ever seen in a boat was a flag that would come up and out of the dash when you pressed the button for it. ive never seen anything like this before

In boatersworld ect. there are fishing rod holders that you could stick the flag in. If you can get past the idea of having a fishing rod holder on your boat, some of them are sweet looking. I like the stainless ones. And, as a added bonus, the fisherman may think you are kool, of course no one else probably would.

Flags are the dumbest idea I have ever seen(or close to it). What ever happened to being a responsible boat driver and staying clear of other boats. I know that some of you ride on narrow passways and it is probably a good idea in those situations, but does it really need to be law. I think the company that makes the flags got the law passed, so they could charge ten bucks for a piece of plastic on a stick. My .02

The actual cash value of your opinion is about 1/10th of a cent. If you see me with an orange flag in the air, don't look at the boat - look out for equipment or a rider that's in the water! (Message edited by swass on June 04, 2004) (Message edited by swass on June 04, 2004)

Swass, My point was that people should pay attention reguardless of a flag or not. You don't need to attack me.AH. (Message edited by psudy on June 04, 2004)

Paul I think having to throw up a flag when a rider bails is 100% necessary. Of course everyone is paying attention but the extra precaution helps. You's have to be an A.H., M.F, and a J.A. to think otherwise. If you're bumming about a flag costing $10, you're in the wrong sport my friend

David, Your right. It was childish of me to let Swass pull me in like that. The only thing that I am saying is that flags are a relativly new law. Do you guys think that they have helped that much? I have never seen a situation where they have been the deciding factor of wheather someone got hit or not. I do realize that in CA they are probably very useful. I was not "bumming" about the cost. Simply saying that someone has made a fortune off of them. Swass, I am very sorry to have upset you.

more flag holders than you can shake a stick at (no pun intended). http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65921/71717.html I really like the DIY "semi-auto" flag holder that is shown in there....I may have to whip one of those up....

Ahhh, did Swass not get his binky? Relax buddy, it'll all be OK. On the flag note, like it or not, it's a law, and we got pulled over yesterday for "not really" using one. We whipped it out as soon as we saw the po po cruising up on us and they couldn't give us a ticket, but they did warn us...

I've got to chime in on this one. PAUL- You made the comment that you've never seen a situation where they have been the deciding factor if someone got hit or not.......maybe because it works! Less people hit in the water may be due to the use of the flag. Don't get me wrong, I don't like using the flag but if it can help save a life I'm all for it! And for an FYI, I've seen boats turn after our flag goes up! I watch for them and when I see a flag my attention goes to where is the rider in the water from that boat. And Paul, I'd take you up on the offer of getting together while you're in Denver.

I emailed wake-me.com and they do not manufacture the flag holder, they only made a couple for personal use. How much does the trimetric cost? Im guessing from the picture it holds a 1/2" diameter flagpole... do you know for sure? Im looking for 1". I dont really want to lay out any more than $50 for something like this since Im pretty much only buying it for looks and so my friends can find my boat when they're crocked down in the ozarks for 4th of July.

Mike - The one TY shows is a good price $ 25.00 with another $25 for shipping. I also looked at ebay chrome rod holders $ 8.00 but they will not fit a 13/4" tower.
