A buddy of mine just picked up a new boat (used)205V w tower.
He had a strange question for me. He asked if it was a bad idea to slide his racks back closer to the elbow weld rather than in the center of the bar. He has some oder racks which just a single hrizontal mount. He wanted to slide them all the way back on the 90 degree support to where it met the leg that goes perpendicular at the joint.... I guess you would call it. I didn't have an answer as my racks have dual horizontal mounts and are in the center of the cross member. His are the old Wake Design models. He was just worried it would put some stress at the joint and cause a crack possibly. What do you all think as I really couldn't answer his question....seemed logical enough
The weld is the strongest part of the tower. It shouldn't matter where he places the racks. Think about the stress a big guy puts on the tower and it doesn't crack the gel where the tower is mounted. Those racks are nothing compaird to that stress.
Swatguy , that spot is actually better if the racks have a flat face that can rest on the vertical upright as it will keep them from rotating downward from rollers/double-ups. This is where my racks have been for over 5 years.
Yeah that would be key but unfortunately these racks only mount horizontally. He will probably be upgrading next season, but for now since ours is winding down he's gonna use what he has for now.
Ye that is how mine mount but they have a flat face that rests against the verticle, not around it, so it wont rotate downward from the weight of the boards and wave action.
