Are there pros and cons to wakesurfing with a surfboard? Can it be done and is it recommended?

I would like to buy one board in the future that can do both well for a beginner wakesurf or surf newb if that is possible.

I have used a Landlock and that does the wakesurf deal well. Are these still made?

TIA

Will

Will,
You can use the same board for both. A board for the ocean will because of the paddling and catching wave thing require a longer thicker board. Normally a wakesurf specific board will be to small to ride in the ocean though some will work for both i.e Shred Stixx and others like them. I for example ride a 5'3" wakesurf board but because of my weight at 265 I need a 10'2" long board in the ocean. see post http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/87668/370658.html?1164718719
There are some riders such as Josh Sleigh that ride the same board for both and kill it.

The landlock is still made but some of the newer wakesurf boards perform better. Post your weight and height and what type of boat wake you have and many on the forum can give you ideas as to which board might best suit you.

I am 5'8", about 165 lbs and have an '06 Launch 21V with the GG ballast bags. That and about 6 people in the boat and the wake is pretty good.

Will be surfing in Galveston and Corpus Christi, TX and maybe some at Ocean City, MD as I have family in both of those places.

No crazy waves at those places (at least when I am there) so I don't think it will need to be that big.

I tried my brother's Surfboard that is about 6'3" I think and it seemed like a good size for me in the waves.

The Landlock Wakesurfer I tried was around 6' also.

I think if you want to crossover from surfing to wakesurfing you'll need to get a "surf style board" like a Shred Stixx, Extreme, or a board like JL said. I both ocean surf and wake surf and don't think I'd have a problem ocean surfing my Shred Stixx. You'll need a board that is buoyant enough to allow you to paddle into a wave.
Board More/Work Less!
