I have a 2000 MC 190, the oil pressure gauge reads around 40, than it goes to 90, than 5, than 40, than 90????????
Is this normal? What could be the problem?

The oil is fine.

Thanks

faulty sensor... my pickup did this for a while. I just had a mechanic replace the sensor and sending unit.

Could also be the gauge. My Supra did the same thing. Get a voltmeter and check at the sending unit on the engine. It should be next to the oil filter. There is one lead coming off of it. Ground the voltmeter and then stick the positive lead on the sending unit. If the voltmeter jumps just like the gauge does, then it's your sender. If it doesn't, it's the gauge.
