i have sold a boat to canada.... you have to have the title to the trailer and I believe have a copy of it faxed to the border a few days before. You write a check for the taxes as it goes accross. That is all off memory, but it went real smooth surprisingly.....
they just want their money

I am looking into importing one also, but I am confused. What fees do you have to pay? I heard that you have to pay 9.5% of the sale price to customs and then have to pay provincial(7.5%) and federal taxes(6%). Does anyone know if that`s accurate.
thanks

Simple... just ensure you have bill of sale for both boat and trailer. title for the trailer. you will pay tax on the canadian equivalent for the boat and trailer. when you go to insure the trailer you will have to have it inspected. it is tough to understand why anyone would buy a 1-2 yr used boat from anywhere but south of the border. canadian dealers just cant compete with the dollar so strong right now. we are not talking a savings of a few thousand... but $10,000 + on X-Stars and other big names.
