just picked up wakeboarding last year. i have a '86 mastercraft and a '98 hyperlite pride 14?. want to get either a new board or a fat sack to get a better wake. still have a lot of improving to do with what i have, but which would you suggest getting first? new board or fat sacks? which makes the bigger impact on performance. can't afford both right now. thnks

bindings then board then sacks. my motto is: "You dont have to be good, to be comfortable." You have to progress you skill level to make a board do what it suppose to. not true with bindings. sometimes, the added support of new bindings will give you more confidence to try new things. my 2 cents.

Are there other practical ways to add weight to your boat, like bags of sand from Lowes, tubs of water, 5 gallon buckets full of wet sand, etc., or does towing then become an issue due to the added strain on your vehicle and/or trailer? That Pride is a big board, how big are you? Than again, that board requires a proper progressive cut to get anywhere with it, so it should help you get your fundamentals dialed in while you are still learning (proper edging and loading the line). Your question does not yield a straight forward answer. If you do not already have a non-stretch rope, that may be the most important place to start.

I agree with toolfan that comfortable bindings are more important than the board.

that is true...i even let beginner riders ride with my parks bindings and they learn a lot quicker and don't have to fuss with some cheap ass bindings. Load up your boat with a lot of people & find a newer used board on ebay.

Toolfan, we love you to... I mean, er, I don't... I mean, not in THAT way, but... um... JESUS LOVES YOU!!! Brian, it might be kind of ghetto, but you can also get a waterbed mattress and use that as your fatsack. Scott Jobe told me one time that he found a "single-bed" water bed mattress at a discount store for $15.

ahaha a waterbed mattress...that's the first time i ever heard that before. Can i bring my pillow and sleep on the boat? It's a good idea and really funny but im sure it looks even funnier on the water with a mattress sticking out of your boat.

It is pretty funny but functional and cheap. It does not stick out of the boat, as you only need to fill it up part way. The main issue is you might have to cram things up against it to keep it from sloshing around too much. Then again, could make for some interesting times if you are able to pick up some young ladies at the public beach.

that reminds of the saying: "Jesus loves you, but everyone else thinks you're ."

yeah, waterbed matresses are a really effective weighting solution. if you can find a cheap one, then go for it. otherwise, just fill up some coolers or Rubbermaid plastic tubs of some kind- or bring lotsa people! good luck and go big

Thanks for all the input guys. i have a non-stretch rope and a fly high ski pole. waterbed matress, huh? sounds like a good time to me. will check around. $15 is what i like to hear. if not, the rubbermaids will have to come through. think i will check around on a used board too. what type/style/brand of bindings do you recommend?
