Traveling to Lake Powell from San Diego in a couple weeks for my first time. Just checking with others to find the best route. Mapquest says to go through Phoenix, then up to the north, but we need to pick up another person in San Bernardino. I was planning on taking I-15 through Las Vegas, then just past St. George, taking Hwy 9 to Hwy 80, which goes to Page. (Launching out of Wawheap). Anyway, just checking with others to see if that is the best route. Still need a couple more bodies - BTW!

Also, Mapquest says SD to Page is about 600 miles, and takes 9 hours. I was told SD to Powell is about 14 hours. How long should it take, towing a boat also?

Thanks.

Buzz

From Oc it was aprox 550 miles aprox 11hrs towing.
we went up the 15 the way your going but we went straight through ZION, shorter distance but takes a little longer due to park traffic but well worth it. Going through the tunnel is sweet and being that your towing a boat with a tower you will be escorted through the Zion tunnel and get to drive in the center.

Yea, Hwy 9 looks like it goes through Zion. Should be nice. Also, looking at the map, maybe I-15 to 40 to Flagstaff, then north. Not sure if that is better.

15 then get off in Hurricane and take 9 through Colorado City and Kanab then on to 89, be sure to stop by and visit some of the compounds along the way

And get a radar detector, helps in CA especially since 55 mph for towing

Thanks for the info everyone. Should be an adventure.

Slipknot - Compounds? I think I get it!

SoCal - Good to hear from you again. Been a long time. Hit me up if you ever get this far south.

Hey Buzz...is San V still open? How about coming to a Canyon tourney at Elsi?

San V is open Thu-Sun, at least through the end of October. I will check the Canyon schedule and make it up sometime.

Hey Buzz, when are you heading out? I'm having serious lake withdrawals being down here in SD and I have a couple of friends working in Wahweap for the summer who I'd love to see. Let me know if you're still looking for another person.

What slipknot said. Did Zion once, but if you're in a hurry (I always am and can't wait to get there) do the Hurricane route. Flag will take you longer also. Takes us about 10 hours from Canyon Lake.
