Anyone now where i can get some lead ballast in the CA Delta area? Proflight no longer makes their's. They said that the price of lead is 3x higher than it was last year, so they don't make them anymore.

Try tire shops. You can usually get the scrap tire weights for free or very little cash. You will need a good bag to keep it in though. This is the kind of bag I use. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7169387068&category=29 576&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1
It holds over 65 lbs and is very easy to move around. It is also very, very heavy duty,

Hi Jeff,

I tried the tire shop thing in the bay area and most of them have an arrangement with somebody to take it away. Try a metal recycler, I bought some 50lb bars from one in San Leandro for $25 each.

Two sources of free lead:

1) Tire shops
2) Shooting ranges.

A number of people have reported success at getting old tire weights. I personally have had success cleaning up the debris from an indoor shooting range. Call and talk to the manager/owner. You will need to sneak in before they are offically open (you really don't want to be picking up lead during active target practice....)
