My transom has some very light scratches in the gelcoat. You barely can feel it when you rub your finger on it, but very noticeable. Can someone tell me the best way to remove this and get the color back? I was thinking of using a heavy duty rubbing compound followed by waxing. Also, what type(s) of pads would I use for the compounding and waxing. Would I need to use a wool pad to get some of the gelcoat off? Please help.

it really depends on how deep the surface scratch really is.. I would wetsand with 1000 or 1500 (depending on how deep the scratch) and then use "heavy duty 3M rubbing compound" to buff with. Then use a polish pad with the Finesse-it II. Then wax.

But that's me.. Other people might do things differently.

There is something out there called aquabuff. That is what my dealer uses to buff out marks on the transom from the boards hitting it.
