I have a Clarion M3170 radio and it has RCA input jacks in the back.

I have been trying to connect an Ipod through a cable with RCA jacks and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Seems simple enough...

But when I hit the button on the front that I believes switches it to the AUX mode all I get is "CONN" on the display for a few seconds then it automatically goes back to the radio.

It acts like it isn't getting a signal. I have the Ipod on when I do it, it does the same thing when there is nothing connected.

The button I hit looks like a stack of CD's . Maybe that is not the right way to get it into the AUX mode though I don't see any other way.

Can anyone help!!!

Thanks!

I can't find anything on the m3170, but it may not have an aux. input on it. The RCA's on the back of the radio are an output for an amp. The stack of cd's you found is for an optional cd changer. Most of the single-din Clarion Marine radio's had the aux. input on the faceplate.

That's correct. The newer style Clarion Marine head units have an RCA input on the rear. The single-din units from a few years back, and even some of the current models have an aux. input on the front in the form of a 3.5mm headphone style jack.
