I used to surf Ocean Beach a lot. He was on the outer bar. If he had just gone slow over the wave he would have made it. If you watch after the jump, the wave never actually breaks. It just keeps rolling. Typical of the outer bar. The wave he jumped is almost similar in size and steepness to the one he crawled over after the boat broke in half. Feel bad for the people in the boat. Sounds like they got hurt pretty bad. I am sure he was ****ting in his pants when he saw that wave coming and thought it was going to break.

Wow! The guy panicked. If you continue to watch that wave, it never breaks. He could have stayed at an angle, 45 degrees or even less, and just scooted out of there. Instead, he panicked and wanted to get out too fast resulting in the jump & slam. Bummer.
^ Like Larry said.

Having never been at the helm in the ocean, I will reserve judgement except to say I don't think -I- would be purposefully heading into those waves....

If you think about it, that Donzi must be one tough boat. They obviously made it to shore with a hull almost torn in two. That bow was up pretty high to slam back in the trough between the waves.

so would insurance cover that?

"uh, I was like just boating along and the hull just broke in half!"
