The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta has been closed to recreational boating through noon Friday in Contra Costa and San Joaquin Counties. The state Department of Boating and Waterways announced the closure Tuesday morning in response to rising flood waters. Boat wakes aggravate bank erosion that can lead to levee failure, especially when waterways are full.
The closure is also intended to protect the public from debris-filled waterways. Waters in the south Delta are expected to continue rising through the week and to remain high for some time due to continued rain and snowmelt. The closure does not affect Sacramento County at this time.
