Ipod distortion thru boat speakers

New boat stereo. CD's and radio work great w/ two Wetsounds Pro 80s. However, will not work w/ two different MP3 players, an Ipod and Creative. The sound is distorted like a radio station that won't come in. Also, we replaced the MP3 head unit jack on the boat and tried a new audio cord. When I plugged in my MacBook, it worked great,....so it only does not work w/ MP3 players. I should mention the MP3 player is a separate jack in the boat. The Ipod cannot connect to the back of the unit or front because there is no input for it. We tried an FM transmitter in the cigarette lighter and sound quality sucked so that is not an option. Any help would be appreciated.

Turn the volume on the ipod to 60-75% volume.

We've tried the volume at all levels.

Some decks like my Sony is able to adjust the volume or output settings on the preout which effects the sound from the MP3 player.

I had a similar problem with mine. Not sure if yours is doing the same or not due to this. If I had the 12V cigarette lighter charging my IPod while playing music I get major static through the boat speakers. After checking for proper electrical connections throughout all wiring on the boat and changing a lot of crimp ons to solder connections the boat now has crystal clear tunes while the IPod is charging.
Check all your connections and make sure no audio cables or RCA’s are running next to power wires.
