I have an 05 Enzo and have had intermittent problems with the engine cutting out, backfiring and basically shutting down to idle speed. It usually happens at speeds in excess of 14 MPH. I have had it out on trips where it did this for three days, than the fourth day it worked fine. Any similar problems that were properly diagnosed and fixed would be appreciated. I will be taking it into the dealer next week (again). They did not seem to have any ideas last time it was in. Thanks

I do not know what type of engine you have, but I asked a friend and some of you problems might be that your timing chain jumped or there is something wrong with the distributor or rotor, but again, I am not a mechanic

I would inspect the distributor cap. Look for corrosion on the cap and rotor.

What George said or one of the engine management sensors. You have a Mercruiser Black Scorpion don't you?

After rereading you first post I have another comment. The backfire and cutting out sound like an experience I had with the distributor cap and rotor. There is also a "limp" mode that reduces rpm to idle for a couple different reasons. Over temp, and/or lack of water flow, there is a flow sensor on the front of the motor above the transmission. I had one replaced on an 05 Avalanche, dealer said he replaced lots of them that year. It also caused a repeated "beeb" under the dash.

my vote is for dist cap and rotor... given the age of the boat it's about due for that.
