I am looking for an older V-drive. I have looked at some 1995 Super Sport Nautiques and I have recently heard about some older cheaper Centurion V-drives. What about older Malibu VLX's. Could I get some help as to what older, cheaper V-drive models are out there for under $20K ? Are there any for around $15k ? I wouldn't mind one that needed work or a motor since I am mechanically inclined and fully capable of swapping a motor myself, but I have not found any boats for sale with blown motors. I would really appreciate your help and pics if possible!

I would try for an older super sport nautique. Same hull as the SAN.

You can get a 1998-2000 Elite V centurion for l$18-20k. You can also get a 2000 Moomba Mobuis V for $17,900. My friend just bought one and it's pretty nice. Interior needs a little work.

Thanks. Does anyone have any pics of any of the Centurions or Moomba Mobuis V drives

I would have heard that older centurions and moombas have questionable quality. No experience, just what I have heard people say on here.

Malibu VLX, SuperSport Nautique or MC 205V would all be great choices and could be had in your price range.

Pretty much a poor man's Wakesetter, SAN or X2.

Earlier Moombas were not nearly as nice as the newer ones.

I can't remember if Supra made a v-drive earlier but the early Launch d-drives are good options as well.

Greg is 100% dead on with everything he said! All those boats are great. Which dealer is closest? I bought a 96 sunsetter vlx(same as old wakesetter/new v-ride) and have a bu dealer about 30 minutes away and they are great. Find an older boat that has been taken care of and don't worry about hours too much. I know people who have 2000 hrs on boats and they run like tops.

There is an 01 wakesetter VLX on traderonline.com for 21K or best offer. Think it has 1100 hours or so.

not a VLX

enlighten us, Clint - why not a VLX?

sorry, I should have expanded on that. I was replying to Jeffery Ala saying there was a 01 VLX for 21k. The boat he is referring to is not a VLX.

We are looking at getting a 98-01 VLX ourselves is why I knew there wasnt a wakesetter VLX on there for that price.

thanks Dayne. mine was taken in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.

Clint, thanks for the clarification. i agree, an 01 Wakesetter VLX would be a steal $21k. beware the 01 SUNsetter VLX - it's the only VLX that ever had the diamond hull. the diamond hull has more lift, and is not as good for boarding. you want the SV23 non-diamond.

If it is the Wakesetter in FLA for 21K or BO, I called and spoke to a woman and she said that is was a V-drive on not a DD? Man, that would be a rude awakenining if I drove down there from VA and it was a DD.............You can't tell by the pic for the ad.....Once she told me the hours I decided against it anyways.

Clint, did you call on that one?

Jeff, I figured if it was a VLX then the ad should have stated it. If it is a VLX for that price it is a good deal even with the hours given that it has been well maintained and the interior is good.

1100 hrs really isn't that much if the engine has been maintained. it's got another 2000 or so left. you could replace all the vinyl and carpet for less than $1500.

She did say it was a V-drive. No perfect pass and was unsure about MLS. I may give a call back today. Maybe I can get some interior and dash shots.

Just a tip that I've heard from many people buying used boats, stay away from used tow boats from Florida. The intense sun, heat, humidity, and frequent salt water bodies of water down there really take their toll on a boat. I've seen pictures of many 2-3 yr old boats from Florida that look like they're 10 years old. If you find a killer deal, I say go for it...but as a general rule, I would stay away from FL used boats.

Oh, the super sport natique that someone mentioned would be an excellent choice. Heard nothing but good things about them all around. Several people on this site have bought them and added a tower, ballast, and graphics and it looks identical to a newer SAN...and for about half the price.

Nice how they don't mention it in the add.............I guess when you see a VLX for anywhere in that price range you need to be leary..........
