Last night I got to demo an Epic and watch Raequel ride. It was a great night with good weather, could not have asked for more. I rode like crap but enjoyed the wake. I figured I would post up some pics and my thoughts on the boat overall.

Watching Raequel ride was great, she went huge and rode with a lot of style. She ended up riding for about 10 minutes before she over rotated a whirly and about knocked herself out. It looked brutal, but she was ok.

THE WAKE:
The ballast was only about 1/2-3/4 full and we had 8 people in the boat. Setup how it was the wake was not really any bigger than my 24 SSV, but had a different shape, was more narrow, harder, and straight up. I really did like the wake, but it would take some getting used to. The first few toeside jumps it just THREW my board out in front of me, you really had to concentrate on keeping the board under you or you would end up landing on your back. It did wash out fairly easily, but so long as the people in the boat were balanced out it was not too touchy... My 24 is a little touchy too, so this did not bother me.

The Boat:
Likes: The fit and finish was nice, the materials seemed very sturdy, and the boat rode very well. I loved how roomy the cockpit is in comparison to my 24SSV, and loved the seat cover material. The dash was nice as well, loved the ballast gauges. Really liked that the speakers were in the transom, no hitting your head on the tower speakers. The nose rides much higher than mine so you are not as likely to take water over the bow.

Dislikes:
The boat is LOUD... There is a ton of engine noise. Don't get me wrong, the engine sounds great, but it is really loud. Especially when you pull the rider up the first time. I thought that it would be awesome to have the ballast under the floor and leave room for boards in the rear lockers since we had so many people on the boat... but the locker opening is too narrow and short for me to get my board in the rear lockers.

That is about all that really jumped out at me... I really liked the boat overall, the wake, the people, etc.

The 8.1 is a little noise at times. Being in Cali our new EPIC has the catalytic converters on it and it sounds like a V6 runabout. We love ours as far as the room in the lockers we don't put wakeboards in ours so I don't know about that but the surfboard does fit in it no problem. Raequel is a great person not to mention great rider glad you got to watch her ride.

That wake is nasty big. I like it.

Those are the only pics you got of Raequel? How about some of her killing it?

any pics of the boat itself?

No pics of the boat, but it was yellow and white. Those were the only stills I got of her. I took video of the rest, will put it on youtube shortly. I did promise her I would not post the part of her eating it on the whirly, she asked me not to...

Don't get me wrong, the wake was big but not any bigger than my 24 SSV (stock 1200 up front and two 750's in back). Then again, the ballast was not full so I think with the extra weight it would have been even bigger...

speed and rope length?

The one time I rode behind an epic, ridign at 80 feet I thought the wake was narrow for that length??

Is it me or did that other boat in the video look a little close when it went by.

Hey that was me riding past her! I have to say it was intimidating sharing a line with her as she is doing backside 3's and whirlybirds.

In that particular cove we all try to hug the shoreline and stay in one lane since that is a south wind block. Their were about 4 boats total sharing that lane that night. However by that time it was getting dark and the water had really gotten calm so it didn't matter. It could of been my drivers habit to stay close to the shoreline.

But to answer your question there was some distance between our boats.

Matt was not that close, we share that line with him all the time and he is a good safe driver (his crew included), no worries there.

When I rode I was at 70 feet and 24.5mph, same as I ride on my boat. The wake was more narrow than mine with more straight up pop. No idea what she was riding at...

thats cool that you can get 4 boats that know what there doing together and working together to keep the water nice . don't see that these days where everybody works together.

Don't sell yourself short Matt. I saw you do a BS 271 to faceplant that was freakin sweet right after that!

Nick, when you put more weight in that thing it gets to big and steep for your average rider.
BTW did she ever land that PeteRose? Looks like she went a little early on it that time.

No, that video shows everything except the whirly she ate it on. Good job breaking the board rack by the way... ;)

Yeah Rae!!!! Killing it. I love that. The Mobey-dick is my favorite trick in her bag. I remember a couple years ago when I was as good as she was. LOL!! Nice work, girl. Keep it pushin'.

Sam.... She's not from the South, though she's full of hospitality. She's from up near Chico, CA. Just a cool person.

Hey man I'm in the same boat as you, somewhat literally haha but I went down last friday and got a demo in the lagoon near the factory. I loved the boat. The wake was awesome, surf and board.

The inside is much more shallow than what I am used to which is an x-star. Theres a few things here and there that we are pointing out to them and helping them with to make it an even better boat. Its got plenty of punch outta the hole and handles very well. You can also back up in both directions! all around its a great boat and I really liked it and I really see Epic having a good future, Chris Anthony and the rest of the guys at the factory really have their heads in the right place, ahead of everyone else.
