I've never been to a cable park but have been wakeboarding for 20 years. They opened one an hour from the house so I'm going to check it out next Thursday. I have a CWB Trancend that I love behind the boat but I'd rather not tear it up. I'm 215/6'2"ish so regardless of how smooth the ramps and what not are I'll be creating a lot of friction. The board has a pretty aggressive spine and molded fins on it that may not lend themselves to the park either. It's also got metal fin extensions and I can't find plastic ones to swap in. I'd have to just remove the extensions and rely on the molded portion of the fins.

They have slingshot boards to rent for $15 which I haven't liked in the past behind the boat (They suck up all of my "pop") but are probably right at home in the park. I'm leaning towards renting one and tearing their stuff up but I'd also prefer the comfort and familiarity of my own gear in a fairly new scenario.

Is there a question in there? Boardco.com has the 2012 Tex for $180 shipped. If you are looking for a recommendation for a great cable board at a great price... then that's mine. You might like it behind the boat as well.

edit: just took a look and it appears they are gone. Next up it the 2013 for $230 or the 2012 Witness Grind for $180. Unfortunately neither of those are left that would be big enough for you. It's a good site to check for a deal. My buddy was able to get a new 2012 Tex off Amazon for under $200. Might check there as well.

I'd say go with the rental. I primarily ride boat but when I go to the cable, I can jump on any board and it will feel good enough. For riding 20 years, I'm surprised you don't have an old board laying around but I keep my boat board for the boat only.

Yeah, it's in the subject. I guess how bad am I likely to tear up my board assuming I don't have a massive crash?

Do you have a link to the 2012? I'm only finding a 2013 for $230. I'll consider a park board if I start doing it more frequently.

If you hit ramps and sliders there is a chance you will damage your board. I've seen a brand new board get a gash on the first ride.

rent the slingshot and start saving for a deck for the park. I wouldn't recommend the Tex. It's got a Grind base but it's super stiff and I don't think you'll have much fun riding it.

If you can find a 140 Motive on your local CL for under $100, it will serve you well at the cable until you decide to get a grind base board. There are a million Motives out there as it's probably had the longest production run of any board ever. It is durable and IMO doesn't drag on the obstacles. Plus the molded fins will give you some stability that you used on your boat board.

Witness Grind 2012 for $215 incl shipping. Good cable board. IMO not significantly different from the Tex. I have both.

Choice 142 would blow away those other boards at the park, http://www.evo.com/outlet/wakeboards...2013-front.jpg

Or this Ronix Pheonix Project S http://www.evo.com/outlet/wakeboards...d-2012-142.jpg Can't beat that price

Not sure about the "blowing away" part, but a 142 is probably a better size.

Well, I could pull out the ole Super Squirt that I bought when I was a sophomore in high school. That was 20 years, 2+" of height, 55 lbs, 10 years of marriage and 4.5 kids ago! It looks exactly like this and I do still have it:

Needless to say it's a bit too small for me now but I have ridden it within the last 4 years with success.

Rent so you damage their boards, and then rent and demo to figure out what you like. Even boards from the same brands will "slide" differently, and everyone has their own preference.

Even the same board with different wear can slide differently. But it is true that to find the best board for you requires you demoing them.

Why not support the new local cable and purchase from them? They will back you up if any warranty may be needed, will probably help with demoing, as well as it's a great way support their overall existence.

I can't buy it now. We've been trying to be disciplined about sticking to a budget for about 4 months now.

Rent one then, parks tear up molded in fins. Beat up park boards make great beginner/boat boards too. I have a company severance 142 that is my boat board, I bet that board has a couple miles of rail hits on it and still looks great..
