I'm about upgrade my stereo and have been listening to tons of advice. I'm pretty much good to go except for the tower speakers. Here's the dilemma...

Can 6.5" tower cans really sound good? Right now I've got the Clarion speakers in them. Can I swap those with some kick a$$ speakers and expect to get good sound or will tower cans always be a little weak?

If you can, give me examples of any 6.5" speakers you've used that really crank the mids and highs.

I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade the cans, maybe even add 2 more, or sell them and go with something else.

Thanks. Jeremy.

I think 6X9s or 10X7s sound the best on the tower. They crank all the frequencies so the rider can actually hear the tunes.

6.5's can sound good if you have them amplified, but yeah, 6x9's sound really good (again if amplified).

It would definatley be a good idea to put a crossover on them. That way they don't distort from the lows that you won't hear on the water anyway.

I have 6.5 Focal brand speakers in my cans. They sound outstanding. They blow away the MB quarts of the same size.. Crossed over using the high pass function on the amps running them. If you want to hear them while riding, I highly suggest 4 speakers on the tower. Take your cans to the speaker dealer and see which ones will fit. Tell the guys there what you are doing with them and they should be able to point out which speakers are going to work best. There are also many many opinions and suggestions on this subject in these forums. Just search for them.
