My brother and I were installing a motor in his old jetboat when we went to mount the MSD box to the transom and the screws we bought were about a 1/4" too long, its a very small screw, but it did pop out through the transom.
Yes it holds the box in there, but it looks kinda funny with three gold threads and a sharp point sticking out. Cosmetics aside could we use JB weld or superglue or something to patch the hole, it was a super tiny screw, maybe a 1/8" in diameter at the most. It is above the water line so I guess if we left the screw in there it'd be ok....just kidding

Use some epoxy to fill the holes and get a gelcoat repair kit for the cosmetics.

Maybe glue a piece of wood to the hull to mount the box next time?

Like Ryan said, glue some wood to the hull to attach to.

Get a Gel-Coat repair kit from Boaters World or West Marine. Should be able to match the color pretty close.

Quickest way would be 3M adhesive sealant in the hole, or silicone, and put the screws back in. Then grab a buddy and a 6 pack. Stare at the screws and develop a good reason to casually explain those sharp protrusions. Maybe some part of a magnetic field sensor in the speed control?

Yeah that sounds easy enough, we then looked around some more and found the spot the previous owner had his msd box mounted and we just need to buy a bracket, so we got the motor all in and hooked up, put in some oil and were priming the oil thru the motor when we noticed oil dripping on the floor, appears the drain plug didn't seal right, so out comes the motor again tomorrow, new pan and back in it goes, should be on the water by this weekend!
