Those 3 pics were taken out at the Colorado River down south near Yuma (Ferguson Lake, Fishers Landing, Martinez area). Some of the ones in my wakepics gallery were taken at San Vicente, which is the only lake in San Diego where you can wakeboard. Troy, the flowrider crashes happen to fast to capture on camera! Hopefully I'll have some video to include in the next wakeboarding vid I put together.

Those were shot with a Canon 1D Mark II with a 70-200 f/4L lens. The Digital Rebel takes shots that are just as clear and sharp but the new 1D Mark II shoots at 8 frame per second so it's able to capture the action without missing a shot.

Bill, Not to highjack this thread, but that camera of yours is no joke. I have looked at that camera and it was a little overwhelming being that I don't really know crap about photography. For our shop I opted to go with the digital rebel and I have been looking for lenses that would be good for the camera. Do you really think you could get that nice of a picture from the rebel? Can you recommend any lenses like the 70-200? Also, what would be good for close up shots maybe with a fish eye effect? So far I have taken some pretty good shots with the rebel, but the stock lens only goes so far. JLembas Fluid Concepts www.fluidconcepts.net

alan, here's a pic of my boat at Lake Powell http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php?medid=6105 I haven't had my boat out there much in the last two years so that may be why you can't picture it. JLembas the Canon 17-40L is a nice wide angle lens or you can go with the Sigma 15mm fisheye. You don't get a true 180 degree fisheye with the Rebel due to the 1.6x crop factor but the 15mm will still give you a super wide angle. I just picked one up and it's a sweet lens. For wakeboarding the 70-200 f/4L is a great lens. But to really get great looking shots from the Rebel you need to do some post processing in Photoshop. Here are some sample shots from the Rebel that I've taken over the last year. All have been sharpened in Photoshop and resized, along with brightness and contrast adjustments as needed.

Since the trend is already highjacked: Bill - what's your procedure for shrinking pictures to fit under 100K? The pics from my drebel (like the one of my son falling above) seem it lose a lot of quality when I shrink them down.

I use Photshop's "Save for Web" feature or Adobe Image Ready to get a good look at 100K.

Bill, Thanks for the tips. Those shots with the rebel look tight. Fortunately, I know photoshop all too well, so there won't be a problem there. Now all I have to do is sell off my first born so I can afford some lenses. BTW, a friend of mine with a Mark II recommended a Polarized filter, especially if I am shooting in the bright arizona sun. Do you agree? JLembas Fluid Concepts www.fluidconcepts.net

Dave, I open the pic in photoshop and make any adjustments to color and brightness/contrast as needed. Then I resize the image for the web, generally 800x600 or so. Then I use the USM filter (Unsharp Mask) to sharpen the image (you can also just use the sharpen filter, USM just gives you control over the process and amount of sharpening). Once I'm happy with the image I use Save for Web and adjust the quality up or down to keep the file under 100k. I generally don't use a polarizing filter when I shoot wakeboarding and most of the pros don't either. But that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't. Just remember that you lose about 1 1/2 or 2 stops of light. Since I like to shoot 1/2000 @ f4 the polarizer would make a big difference and I'd be at 1/500 unless I boost the ISO. A polarizer does deepen the blue of the sky. Here's a pic of my nephew wakesurfing up at Shasta taken with a polarizing filter.

One more crash pic, this is part of a sequence shot from the first pic in this post. If he had his eyes open he could see his reflection in the butter!
