altitude proping- malibu 23LSV

I use a factory prop on my malibu at an elevation of 4500' (Lake Almanor). I would appriciate comments from users of "altitude" props on ski boats (preferably a malibu 23lsv) and how they affect performance and/or issues related to using non factory supplied props with different dia./pitch...thanks

On a typical day you are down almost 20% power at 4500' compared to sea level. Propping with a lower pitch prop is almost essential.
You have a significantly lower top speed already, as a result of your lower HP, so changing the prop really has no affect except you come out of the hole faster.

Call the folks at ACME propellers or OJ Props and they'll tell you exactly what you need in your situation.

Altitude friendly propellers (really just a name) give you more power out of the hole. I live at 5600' and we must reprop the boats we get.

save $$$, and just re-pitch your stock prop.

What motor are you using? Monsoon? If so, I'm sure you are running a 13.5 x 16 right now. You probably max out at 45-46mph. Go to an Acme 1235 (14.25x14.5) and you will likely lose 7-8 mph. You will have a lot of get up out of the hole but watch your red-line. With that prop, you will get there in a hurry and if you red-line your boat to the point where the rev-limiter kicks in for a couple seconds, you throw engine fault codes that the dealer must reset. The immediate solution to that problem is to turn the boat off and restart it. The codes will go to inactive and you will have no problems.

We usually run our boat at about 4500 feet. We use the Acme 1235 and it is great. Yes you lose some top end - I try not to take the boat over 40-42 MPH but I can have the boat loaded to the gills and still yank a big slalom skier out of the water with no problem. At higher altitudes the 1235 is the way to go if you are OK with losing the 7-8 MPH top end speed.

Sorry - I should have mentioned - I have a 23 LSV with the 8.1.
