My Coworker replaced his 4 runner with a new FJ and he says it tows WAY better than his 4 runner did. He has a Nautique 211.

I really cant imagine a V6 having enough torque to pull boats up hill without strain.

He did also say that the FJ is a hard car to have passengers in, as the back seats dont have windows. I think there was a rumored V8 4 door model coming out if thats an option for you

between you and me, the less time i spend with my axle seals and brakes below the water, the happier person i am...

...and 278 lbs of torque at 3700 RPM does not qualify as

a.) "lots O' torque or
b.) torque where you want it in the power band

nice truck with wet brakes and wet bearings nonetheless...

Years ago I had a Toyota truck, it had problems pulling jet skis up hills. I'm sure the FJ will tow the boat, just not very well especially depending on circumstances.

Hmm, I thought Darren might get a kick out of this pic, seeing as he's considering an FJ and all. But, instead we get the typical know it all response....

The FJ cruiser is only rated to tow 3000 lbs. Will it tow a heaver boat sure but stopping is another thing even with trailer brakes.Just my $0.02 I did price one out and being I own an old school FJ40 ( well three of em )i think it is a great looking truck and performs real well.

Leaf--
Darin, I am sure, will get a kick out of that pic, regardless of my response. Heck, even I think it is a slick looking shot.

And if providing accurate information (278 lbs/tq @ 3700 RPM) falls into the "typical, know-it-all" category, then next time I will just provide a link to the Toyota page where I got the info from. The opinion that it is not tons o torque, is exactly that: an opinion. Next time I will preface it as such. I apologize.

At the risk of being a little more of a know-it-all, I just double-checked the Toyota site, and the accurate towing capacity is 5000lbs, not 3000lbs.

My towing needs are not that demanding and I have entertained down sizing my daily driver. One of the vehicles that I have considered is the FJ Cruiser...

my mistake I was looking into different trucks at the time and got my numbers crossed. still a good looking truck shame my wife would not go for it as it would have been her daily driver.

We have a 2005 nissan pathfinder w/ v6 270 hp
it is rated for 6k and pulls our boat like a paper weight.

As long as the Transmission has good gearing and nice short gears down low iwth tall gears for the highways you are laughing with a V6, plus fuel economy will be about the same of a V8 because it has to work a little harder.

Isaac- many V6 engines have plenty of power for pulling boats. I can see how the backseat would be cramped though
