A panel of 10 "experts" decide the sport that demands the most from the athletes who compete in it.

Wakeboarding seems to have been overlooked..

Just goes to show how few people have ever wrestled. It's by far the most demanding sport of those listed.

IFC style fighting wasn't listed, but if it was I would think it would be way out front. Put boxing, martial arts, and wrestling together how can there be anything more demanding than that.

the fact that figure skating beat out long distance bike riding.

I am glad to see cheerleading made the list but wakeboarding didn't. I can't believe that surfing and skateboarding were rated so low. I would love to see Mike Tyson do a kick flip. This is just boxing propoganda for the new "Rocky" film.

Typical ESPN nonsense. It shows that wakeboarding isnt mainstream enough to make their list. This survey must be taken from the "Couch Potatoe Committee". And Billiards??? isnt that what you do in between drinking? How about Fuel TV take a similar survey????

How does basketball get the #4 spot?

Don't rip too hard on figureskating.. I hear several of the pros regularly throw 1080s in competition, and a few are even doing 1440s.

Thought 2 people were a couple and not a panel.Anyways, that's coming from a Ph.D. which stands for "Piled higher and deeper".

Look at the criteria and methodology used to determine. Strength and endurance and speed are not big point getters for those sports. They don't use coordination as a factor either. Wakeboarding would probably or should probably score decent because it does take strength and endurance.

Which sports take the most coordination and biggest balls and action sports wins.

PS- who cares, it is ESPN and they are not about action sports

WTF? Rowing came in at no. 38. Rowing is by far the hardest sport I have ever done, at the end of the race every muscle in your body is (or should be) burning and yet you still have to remain composed.

What a load of BS.

"I would love to see Mike Tyson do a kick flip."

And I'd love to see any pro wakeboarder knock out a heavyweight boxer. Each discipline requires a different physique and Tyson has the boxing physique pretty much nailed.

These results do look a bit wonky though, especially since it was ESPN that was claiming a few years ago that the hardest thing to do in any professional sport was to hit a baseball.

i don't get the point to survey's like this. it is impossible to compare one sport to another. it's comparing apples to oranges. some people are good at one thing and suck at another even though they both require "coordination". i can hit a baseball but i can't make a free throw to save my life and i still suck at wakeboarding. that is why there are professionals in a sports and not the same guys playing everything. these things are made to produce arguments between people.

Does it actually take any "nerve" to fish?

I guess these "experts" have never been mountain biking in Colorado or Utah. It should be at the top of almost all of the catagories.

What a bunch of tools. Ya Curling demands the most from the athletes who compete in it. Ya Curling takes alot more out of you then wakeboarding.

I'm surprised they didn't have Poker in the top ten. ESPN seems to be that 'sports' biggest fan. LOL!

that list is retarded
Old     (raketball)      Join Date: Apr 2005       01-04-2007, 4:07 PM Reply
I think the list is pretty stupid because a big part has to do with what your body is used to doing and muscle memory. As a decent racquetball player, I play people all the time who are in far better physical shape than I am, but I have problem beating them since I have been playing for so long. I think the list should be revised to list what sport might be most difficult to learn and eventually excel at (or something like that). Just my $.02

That list is so stupid because of many reasons....

Any one of the team sports would have to be broken down by position. Take Baseball: Big old fat designated hitters couldn’t play shortstop or any skill position yet are rated the same.

Baseball/softball tougher than soccer? Let me see... stand around and wait for the ball to come to me, then wait for my turn to bat... Or sprint up and down a field for 45 minutes?

Yep, that list is crap
