I learned to barefoot this past weekend, and now I'm addicted! Does anyone have any experience with these tower-mounted booms? I really liked this design for my X-star, but I just wanted to get some opinions from some that have used them. Thanks a lot.

I'd be careful using tower-mounted booms, they create alot of stress on the tower from an angle where they aren't designed to endure stress. This could be an issue if somehow your tower gets damaged and a warranty claim is filed. I'd definitely go with a boat-mounted boom, imo.

I have this boom on my boat and have been using it for three years. It takes some getting used to to mount in the water, but it seems to not cause any undue stress that I have noticed.

Hopefully you will learn to BF longline and then we can see what it looks like to go W2W BF behind a fully loaded X-Star.

Don't do it, never, NO NO NO!

1. the clamps can and will move and will mar the tower.

2. it is a major pain to put up in the water, it is heavy and cumbersome and you will scratch your boat.

3. x-stars have alot of side spray and porpoise. It is not a good bf boat at all.

Yes Yes do it

I have had one since 2004

Never scratched any of the 3 boats i have had it mounted on

they could mar the tower but not much

can't help you with the xstar proposing unless you add a bennett trim tab
Lots of side spray is why you would want one so you can get the boom up as far as you can

They are harder to mount and adjust but it is well worth it to have a spray free ride

If there are so many issues, why don't you just get the center pylon mounted boom?
