Tinned or regular wire?

I am adding another battery. I am ready to purchase the cable for connecting the two batteries together. I see some people talk of using 'tinned' wire for a marine environment. Where I will be running the cable will never see direct water contact (I hope!). It seems like it isn't necessary.

Will the 'King of Bling' at Sound Illusions put tinned wire for all of the batteries in Big Ed's boat?

use good heat shrink on all the connections and you should be fine.

Tinned Copper will inhibit the ability of the copper to react with the air and/or water and minimize the corrosion possibility.

A bare copper wire battery cable that is not properly sealed may show significant signs of corrosion in as little as 6 months (ie:green oxide on the wire and up the sleeve). If you seal the connections then this possibility is greatly reduced and you should get reasonable performance from the cable. It will also make a big difference if the boat is kept dry.

Bottom line is use the tinned copper. The difference in cost is negligable and the performance benefits of the material will be appreciated.

I just received my cable for my up coming battery project. Tinned 1/0 super-flex fine strand marine rated cable. It's very nice cable.

I used some of the same wire in #2 and the paired #8s and #4s earlier this year. I am quite happy with the products.
