Up untill this year it diddnt seem like any companies were making boards with weight in mind all they wanted was to have them be more durable

I would say that is categorically false. Hyperlite used to have their aluminum honeycomb cores and then the DNA core. LF used to have the Fly Core and then the balsa core. CWB has been pushing platinum for a while. It's always been about light weight but the processes changed as expensive cores proved to be less than durable, the new shift is to light & durable (relatively speaking).

don't know about the average wakeboarder, but I would prefer that my board doesn't break on me than to be 1 pound lighter. For what it is worth, my 99 (or 98, forget) hyperlite vero honeycomb is lighter than my hyperlite marek. I did break my first vero honeycomb in about half a summer of riding and had it replaced under warranty.

O'Brien was making Cirus core boards from 2003-2005. They were expensive, but a sweet ride. Maybe they will start doing it again?

I don't think a company would come up with the name hyperlite if they did not care about weight. Fred, I held both the Ronix DHV1 and the Sub6 when the came out, the sub was barely lighter than the V1 series.

Lighter is good I mean with flex boards out and shapes getting more and more refined where else is there to push development.

"I don't think a company would come up with the name hyperlite if they did not care about weight." Hyperlite makes the heaviest boards! It's no secret.

In years past i would agree with you J-Rod. I think in 2008 Hype finally made some progress. The Murray & Byerly Monarch are pretty impressive. Saving weight has been the deal forever, why do you think Byerly & Gator's first signature Flight 69 boards were "honeycomb" boards despite having a 3 inch square of aluminum honeycomb in them? It was the buzz when Hyperlite started the honeycomb series. Also explore the Exocet board. Russell Gay (trick skier, that's his real name) made a board that was like 4 pounds. Memories...

Blindside had honeycomb boards back in the late 90's as well. those things broke very, very easy. but they were extremely light. Hype has been getting better the last couple of years with the weight.

One of the main differences in the Ronix cores and other light cores, is that the Ronix cores actually become stonger in the process of curing the core.

when getting nitty gritty about what board is lighter than the others make sure you take into account the surface area and not just the length of the boards. Slingshot may not be THE lightest board out there (even when comparing surface area) but i think slingshot has little competition when it comes to swing weight and just how heavy it "feels" while riding... BUT this statement comes from a guy who has never spun anything better than a 540 or a guy who has ridden a sub 6 or monarch or... but i still think i have a liable statement here slingshot= light, durable, flex, and more ;)

I've had a 142 (or 143) Obrien player for 3 years. It has Parks XL bindings and still feels as light as my son's 124 Hyperlite. I'm not sure what all of my buddies ride, but it's lighter than anything else I've picked up. I have a 2004 (or 2005) Parks board, but it felt like I was jumping with weights on my feet. But then again it could just be my lack of skill
