Looking to get my fiance a new point and shoot camera. She dumped her last one in the lake a couple months and it never came back to life. Looks in the $200 range. Anyone advice? I have been looking at the Canon Powershot A1000IS and the Nikon Coolpix S550

I've never used either of those, but here's an article from PC World magazine that might help.

These are all shockproof, waterproof (maybe nice for her), freezeproof cameras.

They take pretty good shots too
*these were pulled from facebook so the quality took a hit*

*Bess Marine took the shots too

Thanks for the link Sly.

Nick, unfortunately, I don't really like the Olympus series. My mom has one and I have yet to be very impressed by it..

I have a Rebel XT and our point n shoot companion is the Canon SD700 IS, its a few years old now but we love it! Takes fantastic pix and I even monkey with the manual mode from time to time, doing time exposures. This on trips where I can't bring the big camera.

Nick,
How long have you had the underwater camera? Do they have a decent warranty in case the housing ever messes up or is it pretty secure?

It isn't mine, but the women who did had nothing but great things to say.... I think she said her friend or her's busted once and they replaced it no questions asked.

warranty info maybe in their website

I appreciate the info. I read up on them a little more and saw some pretty good reviews. I also found some on Ebay that came with an extra battery and the sd card so I will probably end up with one.

When I used it it seemed like an awesome buy.

ebay is for sure the way to go... 170~ bucks and you have a waterproof cam with a bunch of extras

freezeproof is nice here in the north too

i have enjoyed my canon powershot a630 so far. i like the swivel screen and the fact that it has so many manual features (which i have yet to learn to use). i wish it were a little lighter/slimmer and the image stabilization feature would also be a nice addition. here are some pics i took on a recent trip to disney world...they aren't as crisp looking when scaled down for posting on here, but you can sort of see some sample images...
