Well, everybody has been asking for this, so we finally got a video that does a pretty good job of showing the wake on this new boat. However, the best part of the video is the badassssssss looking all-black color on this particular model. IMO, that is a really good looking boat!!

Looks pretty good. Wonder what the price is spec'd like in the video? A 2K+ automatic ballast system is pretty impressive.

Who are the riders in the clip? Some nice riding for sure...

Thanks for posting up Dave.

That wake looks nice. Big and a nice lip at the top. I like the all black setup as well.

That black one looks good for sure. The wake has good shape. I thought it would be a tad bigger for 2000lbs and 9 ppl ina 22ft boat, but the shape looks very solid.

Adam McCall is also listed as a rider.

I rode behind one last weekend and drove it. We slammed it with sacks everywhere. (ours didn't have the big balast system) The wake was great. Drove nice, just like a Malibu, the wake had awesome shape. It's a nice boat.

IMO, Malibu wakes get no justice in pictures. Rampy wakes look small in photos. I assure you the wake it great. Every bit as good as the VLX I rode just 1 day prior to the Axis.

I heard some very, very good things from one of the riders in that video about the Axis and it's wake producing capabilities.

Wake looks good! Wouldn't mind checking one out some time.

According to their website is it safe to say that the one in the video was about $45k, or do you guys think it was more? The base looks to be $39k on their site.

Boat looks sic!! Love the all black.. Just sure doesnt look like they are going as big as I would expect. Wake or Rider, or just a bad observation?

looked sick, especially with the black HD.

We are going to have at least 2 Axis A22 at Tower Park this weekend for Demos, courtesy of Boat Country and Randall Harris. Randall will also be riding and signing autographs. Toper Park is on the Delta at 14900 West Hwy 12, Lodi, CA 95242. For more info http://wakeworld.com/getarticle.asp?articleid=2223

Honestly the best part of the whole video for me was they told exactly how it was weighted. Don't see a lot of that in promotional vids. Hopefully a lot of great things to come from Axis!

Definitely an awesome boat. I'm more of a minimalist guy, but awesome all the same.

Dan - I thought that was cool as well. I'm surprised for a demo video they didn't completely drop that thing! A little over 2K plus peeps doesn't seem like the best possible way to show off the wake.
Old     (pwningjr)      Join Date: Apr 2007       05-19-2009, 2:56 PM Reply
Eubanks- possibly because they wanted to show that it is possible to have a good wake and still be legal (isn't the limit for a capacity plate 23 ft?). Plus, that was all stock (minus putting in your own sacks, but its already plumbed).

Sweet video. My only complaint is the bimini top. When that thing is deployed it looks hideous, like a broken umbrella.

approx 3400 lbs plus a wedge should give just about anything a half decent wake. good job on the vid.
Old     (allen)      Join Date: Apr 2005       05-19-2009, 4:08 PM Reply
Dan,
The boat in that Video is all stock ballast the plug and play is an option in which extra came with the boat and are plumed. The sac in the front is under the seat. By far the best STOCK wake I have ever seen. And it drives nice too even with the wedge down.

I am coming around on the boat...wake looks nice. My question would be, if you were a dealer would you pick the brand up right now knowing how the market is? I am curious to see how the dealers are doing with this brand as I think it has alot to offer.
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       05-19-2009, 7:36 PM Reply
Our nearest Malibu dealer is Boat Country, and they have picked up the Axis line. Great crew over there by the way.

Over 2k plus wedge plus peeps. I count about 4500. For such a small boat I would of thought the wake would be enormous...
Old     (tampawake)      Join Date: Mar 2008       05-19-2009, 8:10 PM Reply
anyone know someone who has purchased one? First of anything makes me nervous. However, it being backed my Malibu definitely makes me less afraid
Old     (jarrod)      Join Date: May 2003       05-20-2009, 7:23 AM Reply
The fact that it's really a Malibu would ease my mind.

It's not a small boat. It's the exact same size as an xstar....22' with a 100" beam. Bigger boats need more weight if you want pro-like conditions. In my experience, bigger boats through the meatiest, cleanest wakes once they have all that weight.
Old     (dizzyg)      Join Date: May 2005       05-20-2009, 10:14 AM Reply
Anyone know what the depth is in that area? Our wake shrinks a ton when we go from to one end of the bay and gets absolutely HUGE when you hit the main lake with 80' or more. Depth plays a huge role!
Old     (flwakecat)      Join Date: Apr 2009       05-20-2009, 10:29 AM Reply
Tampa... from what I understand, Malibu is backing it. But yea it seems like everyone would rather wait for the next generation in case there's any unseen issues.
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       05-20-2009, 12:13 PM Reply
I wouldn't worry too much.. You know Malibu will make sure it's a quality product before it's released.

I would have to agree that it's the best stock wake I've ever ridden.

Dollar for Dollar, you can't miss on this boat. It's not a LSV or an X-star, but they don't bill it as such. When you compare it with something like a V-ride it is a very solid value. I'd take the Axis over a V-ride in a heartbeat.

Since y'all asked, I got the lowdown on the options and price for the black Axis A22 featured in the video. Here is the paragraph that I added to the article...

The black Axis A22 featured in the video has the following options; Solid Gel Scheme, ChillAX Seating, Underseat Lighting (red), Pull Up Cleats, Stereo Option Package II, Flip Up Bolster Seat, Auto Set Wedge, Plug N' Play ballast system, Axis Spinner Racks (2), Depth Finder, Bimini Top, Mooring Cover and a Tricked Out Trailer. This fully-loaded A22 would typically retail for $49,000, but I'm told that many Axis dealers are selling their first few at discounted prices, so check with your local dealer to find out about any special deals being offered in your area.

my talks with one of the riders and he said this wake has the capabilities to be better than any VLX he's ever ridden. (he owned one)

I think I'm buying one next summer. I'm totally down for the murdered out scheme in the video. The only thing I hope they change in next years model is the fat sacks. Hopefully they will be able to get that extra ballast in the form of under floorboard tanks for the plug and play option. I think we are gonna try to make it out to Tower Park this weekend to Demo.
Old     (johnny_defacto)      Join Date: Sep 2006       05-20-2009, 10:33 PM Reply
I agree shehan... ditch the additional sacks and just make the stock tanks bigger, that way you don't have to deal with sacks. Just give us 4k lbs stock ballast and be done with it already.

I am in the market for a new boat next year and this A22 is on my short list for sure.

I'd like to see an A22 v. Ride 21 comparison. Option for option, same weight, etc. Visually, The ride 21 is more appealing to me (not a fan of the A22 from the tower back). But if the same or better wake can be had for about the same money, who cares about looks, as long as it's not hideous. Too bad we don't have an Axis dealer in NC.

"my talks with one of the riders and he said this wake has the capabilities to be better than any VLX he's ever ridden.

I'd buy that. The Axis I rode was every bit as good as the slammed VLX I rode last night.

Not to start this up again but cuz I know we've beat this dead horse into the ground but... $49K? and depth gauge is an "option"...? What happened to the "price point boat" with "all you need for $29K?"

The murdered boat is dope looking IMO, I'd love to own it, and it sounds like a great deal since it will perform as well as the VLX and is what like $15K less?... but aren't we getting away from the purpose with this thing? I thought it was supposed to be in its own scaled down price category rather than compete with the big boys?

Look at all the options with a 2 second search in that $ range... all new or with less than 100hrs:

I'd MUCH rather own one of the boats listed above than the Axis... Just my $0.02

Thanks again for all the feedback from the guys at CIE. Boat Country will be out at Tower Park (Delta Wakeboard Camp/Co. Wake) on Saturday and Sunday with an Axis to drive and ride behind. Being a holiday week, we expect a full crowd, so if someone is really interested in a test drive please give us a call at the shop, so we can reserve a time with you.
