It seems like everybody is always asking for pics of wakes. I was going through the pics I took for a Global Warning (http://www.globalwarningthemovie.com) video shoot and thought this one of Dean Smith launching off the wake gave a pretty decent view of the fully loaded Malibu VLX wake. Enjoy.

ya HUGE!

It's a nice wake... be nice to see the same view with an X-star too!

Spencer Smith should have several shots of Dean Smith and others hitting our 8.1 Xstar wake.

Where's the rest of the sequence? I'm calling Crow Mobe on that one.

Was that witht he wedge Dave? How much extra weight? That looks too "tippy" to not have used the wedge. Awesome picture and awesome wake!

J-Rod,

Judging by how much Dean is Tripping that edge I would have to agree. Crow Mobe.
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       01-13-2009, 10:56 AM Reply
That's with no Wedge and 5,500 lbs. of ballast. That was pretty much the max ballast we could get on board without waiting 20 minutes for the boat to plane. I rode behind it and it was crazy. Who needs proper form when you have a wake that big!! :-)
Old     (andy_nintzel)      Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Minnesnowda       01-13-2009, 10:58 AM Reply
Is that the spray off the Chase boat in the background or is someone else riding at the same time?

5,500 lbs???! I hope Dean pitched in for gas. haha
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       01-13-2009, 11:02 AM Reply
That's the spray from the back of the boat. It was converging big time right behind the boat. You could hardly see the rider if he wasn't in the air. I've never seen a wake boat wake quite like this. Stopping was quite the task because you had to accelerate to keep that wave from coming in the back and then quickly reverse to keep the front from going under. Here is the full pic...

Looks good...

Spray in the background is probably from a previous hit...maybe inside/out.

rope length and speed?
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       01-13-2009, 11:03 AM Reply
Or maybe you were talking about the chase boat spray. As you can see, there was a chase boat.

Second pic gives a better perspective than the first...

Damn...wake looks great now.

nutty. do you have any of the rider just riding alongside the wake?
I dont think I would even ride it with it being that big.

Mother of God....

That's the type of wake that you hit once to start getting used to it and fly about and roll the windows down with both arms and feet. Then it becomes a playground of fun.
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       01-13-2009, 11:43 AM Reply
Big Heavy hit the nail on the head for my first ride behind that monster. Although, I had two or three "rolling down the windows" wake jumps before I got used to it!

We'll have an entire photo gallery of JD, Kyle, Dean, Key Lime (Lyman) and the other Keith (Lidberg) up this week. Lots of good shots.

Here are a few more photo gallery "rejects" that might help you get a better feel for the wake...

Best shots I've seen of edging THROUGH the wake. Oh and nice wake.

Did you guys drive any double ups?? That wake is intimidating. I'd give it a go, it may kill me, but I'd do it.

I think his rope was 83 and they were going pretty fast, but I'll check with Dean to get you the straight facts.

From Dean...

"Hey dave! I was riding 85ft, but wouldn't know what speed... Fairly standard speed I guess???"

looks like a damn good time behind that boat..

my guess is somewhere between 25-27 mph with that much weight and that longa line.

hey dave how big of a pain was it to get your boat across the border?

It's no biggie. You just need to have your registration papers in order. The scary part is driving it around in Mexico. I don't wish that on anybody!

I believe they are shooting for a May release on Global Warning.

Were there not some pictures posted a while back of JD Webb riding behind this boat? That boat is awesome looking! Cant wait to see the pictures of Lyman and all the guys ripping behind it! Whats the weight distribution in the boat as far as ratio front middle and back? Ha I dont know if that is to specific of a question
Old     (wakeworld)      Join Date: Jan 1997       01-13-2009, 10:25 PM Reply
It's got the stock ballast of 1,250, which is two sacks on the side of the engine, one under the floor in the bow and one under the floor of the walk through. It's got 21 Pop Products bags (840) mostly in the middle and front. We added a sack on each side of the engine (550 each), a huge one down the walk-through (750), one in the bow (550) and one on the floor in front of the back seats (550).

Now that I add those up, it looks like it's closer to 5,000 lbs. Not sure how we came up with 5,500 when we were on the boat. Maybe we were counting bodies. Oh well, sorry about that.

Kilgus was running that kind of weight + ten or so people in his VlX last year at Pateros. To see a wake of that size in person is a real eye opener. Bet Aki and Brian had fun with their front row seat.

hee, heeSick wake.

I never thought I would think a wake was too big. From the boat it looked too big for me. Never rode it so who knows but man it looked intimidating.

thats not a wake. its a half pipe disguised as water.

In the second to last sequence of photos from Dave the very first picture looks hilarious. Look at deans eyes.He looks like he saw a ghost and closed his eyes as hard as poss. before he does a moby dick hahaha. Nice wake dave, the last picture where he's just standing next to the wake doesnt really do it justice though. It almost looks smaller because of the white wash

I would like to see the specs on that bad boy. 4,000 gallon gas tank and 20,000lbs of ballast? I am guessing that the SS is Super Sport, buguru?

Matt- I have heard a lot about the 09' and seen pics but none of the wake or any people posting a review on the wake?
