I've got a 2004 Malibu VLX; the other day we were out wakeboarding and PerfectPass beeped and it said "Oil P". The oil light isn't on, but the manual needle jumps from 0 to maxing out at 80lbs when we give it throttle. If we stay at 10 mph or less, the oil pressure stays slightly below 80lbs. Any faster and it goes to 80. When watching the oil pressure needle it moves up just as fast, if not faster than the speedometer.

I talked to our mechanic, and he recommended going out once more and seeing how it does since the oil temperature is fine and the oil quantity is full. The only thing that is wrong is the pressure. Everything else is working as it should.

What's someone else's take on this?

If the boat seems to be running fine, with no loss in power and idles fine, I would replace the oil sending unit first.

if it's not an electrical thing, I'd bet your oil pump is making it.

First thing that needs to happen is get a mechanical gauge on it and verify the issue. If in fact it is going to 80 psi you could easily be going much higher and blow the oil filter apart, or lower and not be lubing the engine properly.

Oiling systems are not full flow and use a bypass to control pressure. If that spring and check ball fail all kinds of bad things can happen.
