Tweeters??

Would it be a bad Idea to add seperate tweeters to some co axial's such as Polk db650's and would you even notice it much?

DOesn't the db6501 have a midbass with a tweet seperate?

I used to use the Boston NEO Type M tweeters as add on's in my customers boats with great results. They also sound really good on the dash if your boat does not have dash speakers.

Those speakers are pretty bright anyways, but would really scream with some tweets added next to them. You would definetely notice them, it would work out great if you're only running your speakers at 4 ohms to.

I am running them at 4ohms and was actually thing of using them in the dash area sort of like a center channel in a car. I just wonder how hard it would be to get the sound right on them if it's bouncing of the windshield? Back in my car audio days they use to have center channel control knobs to control the brightness. Do they still have those out there?

Anyway, I think I'll just add a couple sets of them to my db651's for know and see how that goes for now. If I wire them to the db651's will it lower the ohm load to 2?

It would lower the ohm load if they were 4 ohm or less tweeters. Just remember if you run them off the same channel on the amp they will get 50% of the power. Maybe you'd be better running the db's off different channels and the tweets off separate channels off the amp, at least to try it out.

hatepain- The Boston have internal adjustments for both tweeter level and for Xover frequency. Plus you could put a L-Pad from Radio Shack or even use fixed resistors if they were still too loud. I can help you lower the level.

NuBu- The impedance would only drop when both speakers were asked to play at the same time. For example, since the crossover on the tweeter on average takes away all the information below about 3500 Htz, the only time the tweeter actually plays is above that frequency. Since most of the amps load is seen by the mid/woofer it's really not a big deal for the amp.

I got a good deal on a couple set of the type S' so I'll be hooking those up in about a week. I'll let you know how they sound. Thanks for the advice fella's.
