lakefront lillypads - Non-Wakeboarding Discussion

So I assume I am like a majority of people here who would do just about anything to actually own a piece of lakefront. I always look, even though I am probably no where near able to purchase. Anyone else do this? I just figure if I find just right spot at the price too good to pass, then maybe I can rearrange a lot of things and maybe, just maybe, make it happen. Anyway, my realtor just sent me a link to house on a local lake. The house looks liveable, it has rickety dock, and its surrounded by lillypads...neighbors too. So I know I can't be picky if I'm gonna live on the lake, but are lillypads a deal breaker? Do lillypads indicate a nasty water or anything like that? And can they be removed with treatment of some sort? For boating I don't really care much, but if we're gonna live on the lake one of the benefits is that we can swim off our own dock and lillypads just give my kids the heebies...

They don't mean nasty water and they can be removed by hand. There may be environmental restrictions, but lily pads are not a deal breaker by any means. I've lived at my lakefront home for 22 years and it had lily pads when I first bought the property. I removed mine by hand. Messy but easily doable.

you should read up on permits and restrictions applicable to that lake. waterfront property can get weird when it comes to messing with vegetation or the shoreline. if your property owner rights end at the waterline, those may not be your lillies to mess with. docks almost always require permits, you should read up on that in case there are any unusual restrictions about re-building. your realtor 'should' know these things but may not. you don't want to find out the hard way after you buy.

As a fisherman (please dont hate lol) usually they mean shallow water which you will need to check out. Also, it means you could have some awesome fishing right off your dock man! I definitely wouldnt rule it out.
