can get a killer deal on one of these gems. I am an intermediate wakesurfer at best. 180's and 360's are about all I can do. I am used to the 4'9" Broadcast and the COEX.

I know it is the 54" version. But I can't tell which model. It has a yellow/green hue with blue pads. It looks like some sort of weave under a thick epoxy.

Is this the Texalium version?

Thanks.

Good board choice for me? 175 lbs?

My buddy has that board and is 295 lbs and is able to ride it, I think you'll be ok! BTW, it's a very fun board to ride, turns very fast.

I've got one and love it, it does takes a little getting used to, it's very fast and only weighs about 2 pounds. My buddy weighs 250 lbs and my nephew weighs 100 lbs, both can ride it, no problem.

= 2 pounds.

@ Timmy!, do you have pictures of the wake and your @ 300 pound buddy riding that P5? I'm really curious.

You really need to get over that grudge you have against Drew and/or Phase 5.
Old    surfdad            09-16-2009, 2:44 PM Reply
It's not a 2 pound board - shaving 2/3 rd's of the weight is seriously misleading - I'm surprized that you'd be ok with that.

I'm genuinely curious if Timmy!'s buddy is riding that @ 300 pounds, then I need to look at flat and a pintail. I was impressed with what I just did here but this board has that beat by 30 pounds? Even the 250 mentioned was impressive to me.
Old     (hatepain)      Join Date: Aug 2006       09-16-2009, 3:11 PM Reply
I'd definitely have to see pics of that and it on a scale to prove the 2lb's.
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-16-2009, 3:34 PM Reply
I'm surprised it's a deal much less a big deal, seriously. He said about 2 pounds which is obviously a guess. It felt real light to him so he threw a number out there. so what? Not everyone has the tools to weigh a board

Was it misleading? Sure. Was it intentional to try and steer the OP towards a purchase? No, I seriously doubt it and it still doesn't hide the fact that every time Drew comes in here or his name is mentioned you go on the offensive.

I'd suggest not being so petty next time and just keep your opinions to yourself regarding DD/P5 because it's always negative. It's just not going to get you anywhere, trust me from someone whose been there. You don't see me going after TWP anymore and I have a legitimate gripe as possible.

I bust my a$$ to get to 4 # it's serious to me! :-) I have no idea what the man's intention was, it's good that you do. I just know that a reference to 2 pounds is ridiculous to me and it's not an opinion, it's fact it's not a 2 pound board. Just as if I said it's about a 12 pound board - same deviation and I guarantee you some P5 fan would protest. :-) There are folks that read that and take it as gospel.

It's a solid board, I've said that many times, but not 2 pounds and I REALLY want to see a 300 pound rider on it. In the good 'ol days we were all about floatation, but surface area and wake size trump that. Timmy! may have just mistyped, but if not - that's amazing and I'd REALLY like to know how it's done. Boards like the IS Red would be 12 inches too long and what 3 x too much surface area?

Thanks for your suggestion, and you'll understand if I ignore it.
Old     (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       09-16-2009, 6:33 PM Reply
No, I didn't mistype. I will see if I can find a picture of him on Facebook or something - he was 300lbs and he now claims to be down to 285!

BTW - that DD board in it's "carbon" form or whatever that is, is super light! It feels like nothing! My Yellow loogey feels like a tank in comparison!
Old     (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       09-16-2009, 6:41 PM Reply
No pics. I would be very surprised if that board weighs more than 4 lbs without traction (my buddy doesn't have any on his).
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-16-2009, 7:39 PM Reply
Well it's amazing how critical you are of only 1 company/rider.

and sounds to me like you're calling Timmy a liar about his friend riding the board?
Old    surfdad            09-16-2009, 7:44 PM Reply
LOL that's quite the stretch :-) I just want to see how it's done. - the guy must an incredible rider or a monster wake...we just had Frank out and he couldn't ride less than a 6'2". Even Dennis is less than 300 and needs maybe a 4'10" and what 2+ inches thick to ride comfortably. If I'm missing some technical aspect here - I REALLY WANT TO KNOWWWWWWWW! Is it helium filled or something that we can't know?! :-)
Old     (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       09-16-2009, 8:17 PM Reply
No, no tricks and I know you're not calling me a liar. He has a decent surf wave, Moomba LSV with extra weight in the corner. He is an incredibly agile person though - everyone that sees him ride the board is just blown away at his level of athleticism and agility. He likes to do 360's with the rope and when he does it, he pulls the whole boat with him! He's about 6'3" and 285.
Old    surfdad            09-16-2009, 8:23 PM Reply
Yeah there are guys like that - Timmy! is the board tossing up a TON of spray around the shoulder like waist high? If you can remember or maybe the next time you're out you can take a look.
Old     (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       09-16-2009, 8:24 PM Reply
Uhhh, sheesh - I can't remember. He does have to ride with his foot almost all the way at the front of the board though, I do remember that much!
Old     (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       09-16-2009, 8:31 PM Reply
Sorry, not the pic you were looking for but here's a pic of me riding it (behind my boat) to prove that the board does exist! I was wrong, he has rear traction on this board and wax for the front.Upload

Like a cheater 5?! That's funny - at 6'3 that's probably a normal stance for him. :-)

I've switched back to the UFC. The fights have turned out to be much better than the action on this thread, which will clearly go to a judges decision.
Old     (caskimmer)      Join Date: Apr 2006       09-17-2009, 6:37 AM Reply
Well, if there's a technical aspect your missing that Phase 5 is using then it's their decision whether to make that public not yours. It's pretty poor form to discuss someone else's trade secrets.

They should change the name of WAKE WORLD to HATE WORLD cuz thats all this site is, people hating on other people. Every thread gets sabotaged by HATERS!

If it's Jeff you're talking about here I'd have to disagree. He's seems to me, having never met him, to be open and trying to be accurate. While he's obviously a fan of surf style boards he has recommended Phase 5 as a good maker of skim boards. I'm not going to try to search it but I remember because I've got one. (By the way Jeff, I just got my wife to OK a Blue Lake so now I don't have to duck tape insulation boards to ride free with my limited skill)
There are always people with strong opinions and lots of very sarcastic remarks on here. You can listen to trends over time and get some idea of personalities.
Sometimes people just vent, like the post above, but it doesn't mean that they're necessarily trying to be a Hater.

Even though I haven't met him, I "know" Jeff from 2 forums and know when he's been sarcastic or just questioning because things aren't adding up for him.

I know a lot about 2 pound boards. The first time it pounds me I usually try to fake that I'm not concussed and the second time I get a pound from the board I always decide to give someone else a turn. (Not wanting to hog all the time behind the boat) It's annoying when your 10 year old is better than you.

Edit: Sorry, that's getting really off topic

Wow, my intent was not to start a war, I have never weighed the board, my point was that its very light in comparison to some other boards I have rode.

OK, I weighed it, 5.5 lbs. Sorry Jeff!

Thanks guys for covering my back.

Not to worry, RJ, Caskimmer and I have argued like that a bazillion times over the years. I don't think that anyone TRULY wants a "Tyranny of the Majority" as suggested by the Hate World chants or even caskimmer's don't express your opinions...online forums are stream of consciousness and as such, not peer reviewd or
very accurate. :-) While I don't agree with the opinion's of some here, I will fight for their right to express them uncensored, including my own. The freedom we have in this forum is that if you don't like the tone of a post, stop reading it. :-) If only opinions that are "acceptable" are allowed to be expressed
we truly ask for tyranny. I'm not a big fan of the character attacks, because they aren't about the subject matter, but it's part of the cost of the freedom.

Wake world is an amazing place in terms of community knowledge. We have collectively probably the single largest group of knowledgable people. I don't know of any other online source for accurate information on wakesurfing. That said, it also attracts folks that don't know squat and love to post that. :-) The annonymity afforded here also allows manufacturers and board retailers to sidestep the no advertising rule and spam like it's going out of style which typically includes glowing, but misreprensented information.

Thanks for the apology and it doesn't seem that your intent was to misrepresent, IMO though, you did, just the same. Let me explain. A two pound board is unheard of. It would be the single lightest board EVER commercially manufactured
and I'm willing to bet we'll never see one in that weight range EVER. Ignoring the @6 vs @2, because the numbers seem small, but 4 pounds is probably a theoretical limit. Beating that by a full 50% would be ROCKET SCIENCE.

While 5.5 pounds may seem light to you, the reality is that it's pretty average. TWP, ASC, SS, LW all offer boards lighter than 5.5 and some that are in that 5'ish pound range for that size. In your opinion it's light, missing
the actual number by over 50% is enthusiastic :-) IMO, it's weight is average at best and there is nothing wrong with that.

Accurate info serves the community much better than wildly exaggerated claims. Most of the folks that have knowledge, in fact know that your 2 pounds was an exaggeration, but there are literally thousands of folks that don't know any better and read 2 pounds as being accurate. I get, probably, 6 emails a day asking about
what board to get, the confusion for many folks is HUGE. Clear and accurate info in forums would go a LONG way towards demystifying board performance for a large group of folks, IMO.

WARDO- Thanks for sticking up for me.
Timmy- Glad you like the Board and your friends do as well.

Jeff- Sorry you havent been able to build a small more manuverable board under 4 lbs and not 3" thick. Also thank you for questioning every post that says something about phase 5. You keep those post at the top and more people see it. It is like advertisement. Dont know why you have a such a deal with us but whatever. Enjoy your winter.

Bought the board. Love, love, love, Love, love, love, Love, love, love, Love, love, love, Love, love, love, Love, love, love, Love, love, love, Love, love, love, love IT.

It is super, super fast, compared to every board I have ever ridden (Broadcast, Coex, LF Custom)

360's were totally effortless. I like how easily it releases. I rode it switch for a while too. Not sure if a fin is necessary at all. Super fun board.

Even had first timer get out and get totally stoked on wakesurfing.
