sounds like you are looking to buy a wakeboard.

you should look into a buying your wakeskate from a wakeskate company.

if you are looking for your first board you should get a flat deck. here are some wakeskate companies that make flat decks.
Oak
Sattelyte
Distortion
Omen (07)
Cassette
Kampus
Devotid
(sorry if i miss any companies)

for more information on wakeskating go to wakeskating.com

support wakeskating, not wakeboard companies that sell wakeskates for some extra profit.

well it all depends if u are just gonna use it to learn and see if u like it then get a hyperlite, LF, or CWB wakeskate after that if u feel like ur gonna stick with it then get one of the skates mitch mentioned. Im just startin out wit this with a hyperlite scape 107 just to see if i like it or not. Im a amatuer wakeboarder and lookin to add wakeskatin to the list so just do what u feel is right

Mitchell knows what he's talking about

look into Mutiny Skates, I'm suprised you didn't say that-Integrity lover

Mutiny is not around any more. You can find them on Ebay, but thats about it. I agree with Mitchell Lemos (wakemitch) about supporting Wakeskate companies. I wouldnt go with a flat deck seeing how you can get a great wood concave for $210. Happy hunting.
Pete
Check out www.strictlyskates.com or directly with some of the companies. They can give you more info.

well i havnt riden it yet got it on sale since it the end of the season but they say that grip tape hurts your feet when u land and foam kinda cushions ur feet a lil bit but thats what ive heard on these instructional vids

So I have a question. Erich's original mutiny was going to produce wakeboards (though that whole thing fell a part before the boards were mass produced, but they did have boards at the 2003 expo), and then he was supposed to make a wakeboard for 2005, and then 2006, though I guess it was going to be under a different brand name. Is that any different than LF making wakeboards and wakeskates? (you know, how you're not supposed to support a wakeboard company that makes wakeskates.)

If liquid force came up with a sub brand for their wakeskates, would that be cool?

It's all just a question people, and i"m not hating on anyone. but some of this is funny, considering some of those companies on that list don't even have boards to sell...

the not so naked chef (electricsnow) I agree. I would say if you want a wakeskate from Hyperlite or Liquid Force, go for it. Even though they sell wakeboards, they still support Wakeskating. I just wouldn't get a wakeskate from some companies as they sell wakeskates but dont help push the sport. Does that make sense.

Another factor is that the LF/Hyperlite/CWB/Obrien stuff is just alot more accessible.....

I wish some more local shops would carry other brands of skates for people to get their hands on and demo....

Not trying to be nitpicky, but just clearing the air. The original Mutiny was a "wake board" company. When Erich resurrected Mutiny, he focused on wakeskates, with the possibility of making wake boards. the idea of making wakeboards again has been tossed around a few times. But, I think he has been hesitant because of exactly what you are questioning. I'll tell you this, If he does decide to make wakeboards again, They will probably kick a$$
I personally like the direction LF skates has been heading lately, they seem to be putting alot into their team. BUT their boards are rather disappointing in the quality department. Wiht that said, I think it would be a good thing to foor a separate skate team.
As for the rest of the wakeboard companies, I have yet to see a real wakeskate out of any of them.

Yeah, the first mutiny was "mutiny freeboards." The second time around, it was basically a wakeskate company (no freeboards in the title, just mutiny wake, or occassionally, mutiny wakeskates) and they did have a wakeboard at the expo, and a sales rep I bought a board from took on the line with the understanding that there would be wakeboards to sell.

Then in 2005 he had that "stay gold" thing on his site, which was supposed to be the wakeboard line. And according to another moderator on ws.com, he spoke with erich and erich basically had a design ready, but obviously other things have to fall into place in order to make these things a reality.

Ultimately, i don't care if erich does or does not make a board (as in, it's not a bad thing if he does). He's had a lot of experience over the years when it comes to board design, and he's been under some very respectable companies. You can still see traces of the past in the integrity boards (design/material wise).

Yeah, liquid's boards were not that great, quality wise, but I did like the pop from the impulse. Again, i saw what they had at the expo and they look really nice. On top of that, Jimmy really took a lot of pride in those new boards, especially after checking out kyle walton's board after that rail jam. it would be one thing if those guys didn't give two about their boards, but I respect that they're putting the time and money in to make something good. Apparantly these boards are expensive to make, so they're not huge on the "profit margin" end of things.

But yeah, personally, i would not recommend a CWB or an o'brien board. It doesn't have anything to do with them being made by a wakeboard company. i just dont' think those are serious wakeskates.

Peter Rose, I agree with you. I've said this before, but I don't think that wakeboarding and wakeskating (the industries, the people) are all that different. Seriously, it's not like the wakeboard industry is trying to survive off of wakeskating. And a lot of wakeskaters--our really talented and forward thinking wakeskaters--used to ride a wakeboard. and just because you ride/used to ride a wakeboard, does not mean that you're not forward thinking enough to know how to ride a wakeskate and know what looks good. The way I see it, it's all a product of the boardsports culture and the crossovers...

Anyway, buy what you want, buy what works for you, or buy what speaks to you. I just wanted to point that out because it doesn't always have to be an "us vs. them" type of deal. I will say that the LFTAA gave me one of my most memorable days on the water (and one of the most meaningful compliments ever), and I find it very hard to hate on that, not to mention that that bus driver is just like you or me, and he loves wakeskating just as much as the next person.

I don't look at it as "us vs them" either, more like "lets make a wakeskate so we can have something else on the shelves of the pro shop", VS "lets put on our thinking caps and create something that will truly help the sport progress"
And I'm not even implying that only "roc's"(so cliche' now"can do that. rather that the big wakeboard companies don't care to much about progression or even quality, but how much those skate sales will bump the bottom line.

I always feel like we have these convo's and no-one else could give a rats a$$
